My family decided to stop by and do the Railbikes before heading to our main destination, Solvang. We were really excited to get going when we arrived and saw the Railbikes. I spent almost $500 for four people. When we left the train station I thought it was pretty cool. After a while, my chain popped off (passenger side) Waved my hand out and stopped. No one came right away. So I fixed it myself and started pedaling back down the track. Then my chain popped off again. This time I just waited for a crew member to put the chain back on because my hands were already dirty with grease. So the guy put it back on and said he would have to tighten the chain at the turn around. As we headed back down the train, my daughter's chain (on the Railbike in front of us) popped off (drivers side) not once.. but twice... and guess who fixed it. I did, again. The guy crew member said that he would tighten both Railbike chains of the on the turn around. By now, my hands were filthy dirty. No crew member had any rags or hand sanitizer so l rubbed my hands off in the dirt. Then one of the crew members gave me couple wipes from the first aid kit that they had. The crew members were EXCELLENT and POLITE. It just wasn't a pleasant experience that l had hoped for especially after spending so much money (almost $500). This isn't chump change and it was a little embarrassing holding up the train four different times was embarrassing. One child said. at least they are behind us now.. on the turnaround. Do I believe Sunburst Railbikes was worth the money? For me…DEFINITELY NOT. I emailed their main office two weeks ago and haven’t even received a response Just wanted to let everyone know about my experience on the Sunburst...
Read moreMy son LOVES trains and when I found your business online I knew it was something he would really enjoy. We traveled from 2 hours away during his school spring break and had an awesome time. I was a little worried things wouldn’t be quite as I had hoped they would be after reading some of the reviews. I was mainly concerned about maintenance issues with the bikes. Although I did see a few problems with some of the bikes, thankfully the one we were on worked perfectly and made for a very enjoyable trip. I do have to admit, I am positive that the trip is not as advertised. They claim 10 miles round trip and I’m thinking 3-4 miles at best. Only reason I say this is because when the ride was over and we got back on the freeway to head home, I had reached the spot on the freeway adjacent to the turnaround point for the bikes in just a couple of minutes. It definitely wasn’t 5 miles down the freeway and considering the train tracks are nearly perfectly straight where we had to make turns and go around curves while driving on the roads which would shorten the ride on the tracks just a little more. If someone really wanted to push the issue I sure they would win a claim of false advertisement there. I’m just glad I got this on sale and paid only half the price compared to others we were on the trip with. The lady on the bike next to use said she paid $260+ for herself when she was alone and I only paid half that for myself and my son. I would place the value of the experience at what we paid and not what she paid. Even with this as good as it is I would definitely suggest waiting and looking for sale prices over paying what their current...
Read moreUnique staycation for us. Not that well publicized. Different from anything we've done and my wife loved it; I say four stars, maybe three-and-a-half. For one, it's way overpriced even for greater LA. But maybe the most important factor was the abbreviated instructions on using a rail bike you've never seen before. They must impress that you keep a hand on the brake at all times instead of just pointing it out. They were also too cursory with the speed controls and they should tell you that somewhere between 13-17 MPH is probably the best range, especially since the speed controls are hard to read, given where they are placed. The bike works fine and it's pretty comfortable with a strong mesh seat. It's clacketty but not really that bumpy. But the visit is not at all inviting. It should have the feel of a guided tour at a national park or a city like Nashville.Check-in was simple but not at all welcoming. And the scenery is repetitive and quickly becomes boring. That's not their fault but you can only look at so many lemon and avocado trees. They could solve a lot of that by adding some personality to the ride. How about a guide who describes the area and a little history? The bikes get spread out but they could give you some type of audio receiver and make the trip lighter and more interesting. That would also allow for better warnings about stops at crossways. But there was practically no interaction with any staff at all. All in all, decent but WAY OVERPRICED. With all the faults it should be maybe $120 for two and $150 would be expected but still a lot....
