I had the pleasure of visiting the Sapulpa Historical Museum today and really enjoyed the experience overall. Upon arrival, Rachel greeted us warmly, shared a brief history of the building, and provided a helpful pamphlet with a map and details about each room. This made navigating the museum much easier, and we appreciated the thoughtfulness.
The museum itself is fantastic—it’s filled with fascinating artifacts and information about Sapulpa’s history. However, our visit was unfortunately cut short due to a slightly uncomfortable situation. Early on, a woman in a wheelchair, who I believe either works or volunteers there, began following us and engaging in a mix of impromptu touring and unrelated conversation. We politely let her know we preferred to explore on our own, and while she initially seemed to understand, she rejoined us shortly after and continued to follow us around, even riding the elevator with us to the second floor.
While I’m sure her intentions were kind, it was hard to fully enjoy the exhibits or read the signs with her talking so much. My husband and I ultimately decided to leave earlier than planned because we felt uncomfortable.
Despite this, I highly recommend the museum—it’s wonderfully put together and full of local history. However, I think it would enhance the visitor experience if staff or volunteers respected requests for space during...
Read moreFirst, a little back story. My mother moved to Sapulpa when she was 15, and in my opinion, was a wonderful artist. She passed in October of 2022. I donated donated this painting to the Sapulpa Historical Museum after her passing. I happened to be traveling through Sapulpa on a business trip a few days ago and stopped by to sign a few papers. The museum offers a historical overview of Sapulpa. The place is huge, and I felt like I was walking back in time. They have yearbook pictures from classes daring back from the 50's and even before! An old fire engine is in the lobby. Total nostalgia! Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to go through the entire museum; however, I plan to place it on my route 66 list of places to go in the future. What I did see was really dope!! Rachel, the proprietor, was not only well versed in the museum but also in other historical places in Sapulpa. They offer free literature of unique sites to visit in Sapulpa and surrounding areas. (They are open Tuesday through Saturday...
Read moreWe have visited local town museums around the country, and this one is in the top 5. The displays are put together with care and a keen eye to detail. The amount of artifacts they have on local history is incredible. The Curator talked with us for quite a while about the town's history as well as the museum's. She was knowledgeable and very, very nice. She took us over to the fire museum (part of the main museum), unlocked it for us, and gave us a personal tour. We then went back to the main museum building and were amazed by all the themed rooms and the displays within them. You can really tell they are passionate about their town and its history. We can't recommend this stop...
