The Roan and Black rental above the gallery is AWESOME! Our group loved it and it was a great time. Nice appliances, great facility, even better location.
Our stay was honestly diminished when it appears anyone staying at Roan and Black is an enemy to the Pennyroyal cafe in the shared parking lot.
Youâd think the proximity to the awesome provisions bar would be a selling factor for Roan and Black and vice versa. We loved our provisions drinks (though the coffee was gross) and the bartender was awesome.
When leaving the vacasa, one of our guests was throwing out a water bottle we had in our car in the trash can at Pennyroyal. Before she even stepped foot onto the grounds an employee stormed over and said âyou cannot use this trash can we are not friendly to Roan and Black.â Pardon me!
Well we spent a good bit of money at Pennyroyal so youâd think theyâd be more welcoming towards us. We are not in your drama, we are here to enjoy beautiful Lake Michigan. You guys need to get it together with the drama, it is extremely uncomfortable.
Besides that, everything was great and we ultimately enjoyed our stay. The stay itself was 5 stars but the drama put a sour taste in our mouth. Weâre sad because we loved it, unfortunately we will not be...
Read moreI had an unfortunate encounter with the business owner today that left me feeling quite unsettled. While walking to the restaurant we walked across the grass. The owner came out telling us not to walk on his grass. We immediately apologized and moved away, but rather than accepting our apology, they continued to berate us loudly and aggressively. Screaming at us about how dare we look at him like heâs the asshole.
I understand that property boundaries matter and people have a right to protect their space. A simple âHey, could you please stay off the grass?â would have been completely reasonable and effective. Instead, the situation escalated far beyond what was necessary for such a minor, unintentional mistake about grass.
Life is challenging enough without approaching every small conflict with such intensity. I genuinely hope this business owner finds whatever support, peace, or healing they need to handle future disagreements with more kindness and respect. We all have difficult days, but treating people with basic decency - especially when they apologize and move on - creates a much better environment...

Iâm 15 years old, and I have never seen my mom this frustrated. The line for the pennyroyals was super long, and so was the parking, so she decided to park in an area where the sign was flipped upside downâshe couldnât even read what it said. Then, some guy (not sure if he was the manager) told me to tell my parents to move the car. No problem, we did. She moved it to the chargers but didnât plug it in. The place wasnât even busy, and he had like 10 other open spots, so she thought it would be fine.
Instead of handling it calmly, he started yelling at my mom and then actually called a tow truck. We hadnât even been inside the shop, but based on this experience alone, the customer service is awful. Would...
