I had the unfortunate pleasure of being kicked out of this place tonight simply for asking a question!
My son was invited to a birthday party this evening. I was unaware that there was $15 charge to simply enter the facility with my child. Again, I was only there to chaperone my child. After being told I could not enter I paid the $15 fee because well, I’m not the type of parent who’s going to just leave my 9 yr old at a party by himself. For the first 45 mins of being there I was on an important call. The child’s parent who orchestrate the party said, well you’re here you might as well skate. So I wrapped up my call and while doing so she went and got a ticket from Bob the owner, and told him that we were now going to skate. She picked up a pair of skates for me and when I tried them on they did not fit. I then went to the counter and tried to exchange my skates. I was greeted by a young employee who instantly was short with me asking for my ticket. (I was confused by this) I told him I didn’t have one, and was wanting to swap out my skates, that my friend had got for me. He continued to drill me over and over again about why I had skates. I was super uncomfortable with his behavior and asked why there was a problem. He walked from around the counter and as he walked away said, “ I’ll throw you out”. Again, I was completely taken back by this treatment, and as he approached with Bob I asked him to repeat what he said, he stumbled over his words and said, “ I told you that I’ll kick you out.
To which I responded, why? I’m simply asking you a question as a paying customer I believe I have that right. Bob, almost instantly said, you told me you weren’t skating. I said yes, but I’ve now decided I am, and to be honest if it weren’t for this party I would not be giving you my business. He then said well leave then.
I have lived in this community for years. I have never been treated so disrespectfully in my life. I grabbed my son and told him it was time to go. At that point the parent who arranged the party came to speak with Bob. He was again very short and even crude to her about the whole ordeal. Realizing the type of establishment this was and who Bob was as an owner, I said well would you give me my $15 back then. He sarcastically said no. I was blown away. At that point I asked him for his name and he gave it to me, then asked for mine, to which I declined. He then said, “well I have your credit card number”! With a smirk on his face. I told him you realize that im leaving because of the poor customer service right? And he said well if my employee treated you like that then you said something for him to do so. Wow!
I am a respected member of my community, and conduct myself as such at all times. Never did I raise my voice, swear, or get violent with him. We will not be returning to skate land. And I believe in times like these, customer service is beyond imperative to keep business open. If ever asked about this place Yu can be sure we will not recommended. Pretty sad situation, as my son has recently taken an interest in skating however tonight he saw how I was treated and his sweet soul asked that we never go back there again to which I agreed that we would never subject ourselves to such poor...
Read moreOur recent visit to Skateland in Savoy with our 8-year-old son and his friend was an absolute blast! I can't say enough positive things about this place, and it truly made for a memorable outing for the kids.
First and foremost, the staff at Skateland are exceptional. From the moment we walked in, they were friendly, helpful, and made sure we felt welcome. They went out of their way to assist the kids with getting their rental skates and ensuring a proper fit. Their attention to safety was reassuring, especially with young skaters in tow.
Speaking of safety, we appreciated the availability of safety gear like helmets and pads. It's evident that Skateland prioritizes the well-being of their patrons, and as parents, this gave us peace of mind while watching the kids enjoy themselves on the rink.
The skating rink itself was a hit with the kids. It's spacious, well-maintained, and has a fantastic ambiance with colorful lighting and upbeat music. The DJ played a great mix of tunes that kept the energy levels high, and the kids couldn't stop moving and grooving to the rhythm.
What I particularly loved about Skateland is that it caters to all skill levels. Whether your child is a seasoned skater or a beginner, they'll find a comfortable space to practice and have fun. The staff even offered some helpful tips to the beginners, which was a nice touch.
The highlight of the day for our kids was the variety of games and activities organized by Skateland. They had fun races, dance-offs, and even a limbo contest that had everyone laughing and cheering. It was such a great way to break up the skating and add an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
We also noticed that Skateland hosts birthday parties and special events. After our visit, we're seriously considering booking our son's next birthday party here because we saw how well they manage events, ensuring a stress-free and enjoyable time for both kids and parents.
In summary, our trip to Skateland in Savoy was an absolute hit with our 8-year-old son and his friend. It's a family-friendly establishment that caters to kids of all skill levels, with a focus on safety and a fun atmosphere. The staff's friendliness and the wide range of activities make it an ideal spot for a day of roller skating. We can't wait to return for more memorable...
Read moreI will start off first by saying I have not been to a skating rink in close to 20 years. COVID didn't help, but it is so good to see a skating rink doing well. I read some previous reviews and was a bit skeptical about the atmosphere and clientele. I brought my 4 year old and the woman who was working the front entrance booth was very kind and helpful. Inside, the atmosphere was just how I remembered a skating rink to be. Although some of the games did not work, it was fun to have my daughter play games and get real tickets, as opposed to most places now which just put it on a card for you. Entry fees were reasonable, however, I would like to see a slightly discounted price for children under the age of 5. They really don't use the rink as much as an adult does.
It wasn't too crowded, we went on a Saturday around 2:30pm. Plenty of lockers to store your items and they take 1 quarter just like a normal skating rink locker would. The staff was very courteous and I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the facility. Staff members were vacuuming and tidying up. I think the actual rink could use some upgrades as there were cracks in several places which could cause injury.
We went to the concession stand and I was ready to be ripped off. I was surprised to get a pretzel, bottle water, and bag of chips for only $7. The prices are very reasonable and the eating area was large and clean.
I look forward to going back here and helping my daughter learn how to skate. So glad to have one of my favorite pastimes as a child back...
