We went on a school field trip on Friday May 2nd. It was a nice field trip. However in our way out, the entrance concession stand cashier was not very nice. One of my kids had only ten dollars and he wanted an ice cream cup which they had posted for $7 something. At checkout she said it was $10 something. The kids were confused so they came to get me, I told her what the posted price was and she didn't seem to understand. Someone behind us told her the same thing. She I still didn't get it and I was too tired to argue. My though is, some children go with a limited amount of money. It's wrong that they are getting ripped off. Also, while we waited for the ice cream other zoo workers started talking about their shifts with her. She preceeded to say"that would piss me off" in front of the children. I believe that was not appropriate in front of children. Even the other workers looked at each other in disbelief.

Another reason I won't give them a higher rating is that most of their water fountains were not functional. The kids were told that they could take a refillable water bottle so they could fill it up with water there. Not the case. It's very disappointing to see them ripping the kids off. If I was there and they did it, what are they doing to the kids that don't know better.

Another thing they need to work on was the amount of food they gave the kids for a prepaid lunch. It was not much at all. Once again some children didn't have enough money to go and buy another meal before heading back to school....

Prices were high for being a North Carolina taxpayer that helps fund the zoo. Only select ZIP Codes were given discounts and we were not one of those ZIP Codes, even though I pay NC tax. Polar bear looked absolutely miserable, some nasty regular grass and hot brown mulch was in the pen!! Why can’t you install a icemaker and keep the bear on ice? It is a snow bear after all, southern yard grass and southern yard mulch are not imatation of its natural habitat at all! Whoever is in charge of making the polar bear comfortable and be in its natural environment should be fired! I could do a better job as a guest than whatever zoologist job is to make the snow bears comfortable and appear in its natural environment, enter some ICE! Doesn’t take a genius to know snow bears like ice and cold. The detour in the Africa section was poorly marked, made it very hard to find a way out and get to the Africa parking lot! We and several other people were lost just trying to get out of the park and kept ending up in the elephant viewing area. Put clearer more prominent detour signs up at every turn when a main path is...

It is a very large zoo, so make sure you wear comfortable clothing and shoes with support! If you have small children, bring a stroller, but if you forget one, they have rentals. The exhibits are magnificent, spacious, and look to have a lot of enrichment for the animals. The keepers are extremely nice and knowledgeable about the species they care for, and you can tell they put their heart and soul into their job. I will say most every time we go (Nov on our daughter's birthday) the carousel 🎠 is closed. I really love this zoo, and I am so happy they are adding Asia and soon Australia for more species! Im an RVT and animal lover so you know im in heaven! The interactive areas/playground are kept clean and inviting. Well worth the amount you spend to get in. The food is expensive, but it is good. They have vending machines around the park if you need something to drink while you are walking. Also if you have disabilities, there are ramps everywhere so you can still enjoy the exhibits. They have thought of everything! Well worth every...

This is a place recommended for people with kids. Since it was our first time we got to see animals roam around in the wild but would I revisit on the next 5 years? Probably no. The zoo is divided into continents. North America and Africa are the functional ones and Asia is under construction (should be ready in 2026). In North America you can find animals like owls, polar bear, lizards etc where as in Africa you can find animals like zebra's, lion, elephant, rhino, chimpanzee, Lemar, gorilla etc. Africa is definitely more fun. Ideal iternanry for the day would be park at North America and walk downhill through North America. Finish it and then go towards Africa. Africa is a loop. You can finish it after that and then take a tram at the Africa-NA junction to the NA parking lot. Be ready to walk about 5 to 8 miles easily. Also, they provide strollers for kids. No outside fast food is allowed. Only snacks. You do get food inside but I felt it was over priced.
