Denny Blaine Park is a little slice of heaven, and much like heaven is reported to be, it's hard to get get into. Not because of any gate keeping, mind you, just because the parking lot is so small and it's smack dab in the middle of a residential area with narrow streets and very strict parking enforcement (while we were there parking enforcement was actively writing tickets for the many cars that had parked... Creatively).
This park is, whether by brute force or design, clothing optional. The day we visited nearly everyone had opted for no clothes. The crowd seemed to be primarily LGBTQIA+ people and allies, no children were present at the time, though there were a few dogs and every single one of them was the best dog ever, oh yes they were!
There is an upper grassy area, a set of stairs down to a lower grassy area, and another couple steps to a small somewhat sandy but mostly rocky (smooth rocks, but still rocks) beach down to the water. The lake bed is pretty rocky at the shore and can be a bit tender on bare feet but isn't unmanageable. About 10-15 feet out it is fairly sandy. The water is relatively free of vegetation.
There are private houses on either side of the beach and one does have a sign that says security cameras are in use but neither I nor my companion saw any.
While we were there someone brought out a fire pit and lit a fire on the beach (check the legalities of that on your own) and people seemed to generally enjoy each other's company in respectful, no judgemental, companionship.
There were a few displays of public affection, but nothing that you wouldn't see at any clothed beach and certainly far tamer than I've seen many hetero couples engage in, say, standing in line at Starbucks.
The only reason I've rated this park 4 stars instead of 5 are the reasons listed below: Not handicap accessible Lack of parking No restrooms (that I could find)
I had a great time there and I'll...
Read moreJust wanted to write a review on the wonderful Denny Blaine, and give comfort to those who are worried about the tents ❤️ . First of all, I'd like to let it be known that Denny Blaine is a safe haven for many people. I am a 23 year old gender fluid person who learned about this place a year ago.. I've become a regular, luckily I reside up the hill in the central district. Unfortunately my home situation is not healthy, this I have a tent which I use almost daily. I still sleep in my bed at home. Denny Blaine is my second home. I clean up every one's empty containers, rake the beach, put out the fire pit, provide fire wood, cook for everyone and never lacking immaculate vibes.. have you seen the sunflowers? The person in the other tent grew them and waters them everyday as well as doing a majority of the things I also do. We're a community here. Don't judge if you don't know the story. We are the reason this beach is clean and safe. We are the beach regulars, and quite literally...
Read moreI went on a sunny day, and the weather was perfect for lounging by the water and soaking up the views.
What makes this spot unique (and worth noting!) is that it’s clothing optional. Yes, it’s known locally as a nude-friendly beach so if that’s your vibe, you’ll feel right at home. And if not, it's still a welcoming and respectful space where everyone just does their own thing. The energy is relaxed, body-positive, and totally unbothered. Had to try and it was definitely interesting but people welcome you with open arms. So even if you're shy or a regular they are such a great vibe. Open arms & Loving is the term used here.
It’s the perfect little escape within the city green, serene, and right by the water. Whether you’re there to tan, dip your toes in, or just enjoy the atmosphere, Denny Blaine Park...
