A small store, but loaded with Philippine basics including fruits and vegetables. They have a little deli that serves up hot Philippine favorites, with a couple that might startle you. And if your REALLY curious, pick up a jar of bagoong and the sauces that you see here. You'l like them. Sweet or salty...just go for it! Update. The new photo's on the left of "DATU PUTI" SOY SAUCE Sarap-Linamnam & "Mother's Best" SPICY TOYOMANSI may be of interest to you folks if your considering a no gluten, no sugar intake diet. Why? Next time your at the grocery store, either local or Asian, check the ingredient labels on the Soy Sauces. Surprise! Note how many contain sugar, and wheat. You would think that soy sauce should just be made with soy beans water and salt, and that's it. No. In fact, even the so called "organic" Tamari's have one or both of these ingredients. The two in the photo's are a Philippine brand soy sauce and marinade, and neither contain sugar or wheat. Of course, the two companies that make these sauces also make others that do contain sugar and wheat. But the fact that you can find these that DON"T have it is somewhat of a godsend. And by the way. Both of these sauces are quite delicious, particularly the Spicy Toyomansi which is flavored with chili and Philippine Lemon, but isn't "hot", just savory and an absolute kick to marinade ANYTHING. So. Whether your at FouLee Market, or any other Asian grocer, grab them both. They're a great addition to your flavor pantry, and actually a bit...
Read moreGreat place! Yup, the tiny parking lot isn't good. Park in one of the lots in the center of Beacon and pretend the store lot doesn't exist ;) Heard about this place from the Blue Scholars song, and don't know why it took so long for me to go because I've been missing the hot food counter at Island Pacific for a while. Small grocery store but tons of good stuff. The produce is well-organized and was high-quality. But the steam table area is inexpensive and therefore provides a truly wonderful value. Pancit was great, I got the small but should have got large. The fried shrimp were the best thing, seriously, catering quality, big container (1 lb) for $10. Cooked perfectly so you can bite right through the heads and tails. The (solid) meat in the dinuguan had mostly skin and cartilage and was therefore even more rich than usual and had a strong vinegar taste. I liked it okay, but I'm not Filipino, so not sure what "authentic" dinuguan should be. But this is why I should have gotten the large pancit, to thin this out a bit! Got the grilled mackerel as well, which was a close 2nd after the shrimp. Cooked perfectly, was cheap, and auntie just wraps that fish up in foil, slaps a sticker on it and hands it to you. Awesome. Overall: Such good value! So convenient! And I didn't even try the breaded and fried stuff yet! Looking forward to...
Read moreI went to buy taro leaves from them and come home open the 1 bag and about 4-5 large stems falls out from inside the leaves. I just thought this was just ok, but when I opened the second and 3rd bag and the same thing happened, I got really mad. My sister said she noticed the same thing last time she got some from them. I took videos of the next bag. I finally figured out why they put these stems inside, it’s to add more weight to the bag to make the price higher. Fou Lee Market I am not stupid. I called them and explained what I discovered and she had the nerves to tell me, the taro leaves come with long stems so they cut it down and add it to the bag because that’s how they get them. I told the lady, we don’t eat the stems for your information. I’m coming in to return all these back to you. My last time buying from your store. I needed more taro leaves so I went across the street to the Seattle Supermarket and they got about 8 bags and I took all of them, open their bags and they did not have no stems hiding inside the bag 😂😂 Fou Lee I will spread this so no one will come buy taro leaves from your store ever again. Stop ripping customers off with...
