*This review is coming from someone who was born/grew up in Mexico and in a mexican family with many latin families from different parts of latin america in the area. Do with it what you will.
Someone tell my grandma that they stole her recipes because this place is it. The food, the atmosphere, and the service. The only place where you can find such great taste from traditional Mexican cuisine is if you travel to remote small towns and go to their restaurants where flavors that you have never tasted before are perfected through years of teachings and passed down from generations to generation. I tasted their tamale and as it entered my mouth a small tear ran down my cheeks. I was transported to the times where I spent my summers with my grandma in her small ranch in Puebla, Mexico. The burst of flavor was transcending me to another plane of existence. Their huraches where equally great as all the juice and flavors of the dishes melted together as they ran down my throat making my hairs stand on end. The place might be small but it enhances the experience and the staff was sweet and friendly. They greeted and wish farewells to everyone that came in through their doors. It was like family. You all need to visit. This place was a 10/10 on the American scale and a perfect 10/10 on the Mexican scale when it comes to authenticity. Please don't run...
Read moreIf you are like me and appreciate funky little neighborhood eateries with good food, then Cafetal Quilombo is the place for you. It is located among a nondescript sliver of small businesses on the busy street of Colombian Way in South Seattle. I wish I could tell you more about the menu, but I am stuck on the few things that I really like and only buy at this location. They have the absolute best queso dip of any I have ever tasted. The portion is generous and is flavorful with just the right amount of spicy kick that I have never tasted in other quesos. I have had chilaquiles with Carnitas (pork) and with chicken and both are excellent, generous portions with lots of meat and dressed with lots of ingredients. I love a good chili rellenos, however I think theirs has just a bit too much breading for my taste. They have good tamales, and while many think they are some of the best in Seattle, I consider them good, but not necessarily the best. They have pupusas, which are not found in many Mexican eateries. But they lack variety. Each time I’ve ordered them the choice is only bean and cheese. But they are good. If I can break away from my usuals and taste other things, I will let you know. In the meantime, hope I meet you at...
Read moreAhhh mazing. I love South American cuisine, I am always on the hunt for athenic. I base my judgment on a good Latin food on the bean an rice they cook up, the home made salsa, and.... the tamales. I love tamales!!! I have bought expensive tamales, I bought tamales for the ladies at work. I have bought tamales out of the back of a Chevy in front of a grocery store I have eat tamales in the middle of an orchard while pruning grape with good friends. I enjoy making my our. You get the picture. So when I entered The Bounty in Wallingford for a coffee and saw they had tamales for Cafetal Quilombo I had to try. Now, I took in account that it was 6 am, and I know the tamales steamer to table time would be sometime to consider. Knowing there is a prime tamale wait time, I still need to know. I was not disappointed. Mesa was flake. A beautiful masa to meat ratio. The pork was just plan good. Spicy. With it I orderas the green chili sauce. Hello, homemade! Or they fooled. I can't wait to get feed on Beacon Hiil. I Will review...
