Absolutely zero consideration for people that use a wheelchair. No ramps. No sidewalk cutouts. In fact, in order a wheelchair user to reach the viewing area, they are required to travel through car-parking traffic to the end of parking area, actually exit the park area ONTO THE STREET and around the corner for about 20 yards, until you come to the nearest driveway, so you can use that to get onto the sidewalk, which then allows you and your wheelchair to use a sidewalk that, upon reversing directions, eventually brings you back around the corner where you can re-enter the park, as if you arrived from the nearby west Seattle neighborhood as a pedestrian. Better hope that you have a wheelchair seat that increases it's hight, otherwise all a wheelchair bound person will see as they vainly attempt craning their necks high enough over the saftey rail for a glimpse of the world renowned Emerald City skyline is this: Seattle has a deep disdain for people with disabilities.
If anyone in a wheelchair has made it this far in their travels around Seattle, surely they have noticed that Seattle does NOT take the Americans with Disabilities Act seriously, nor does it respect the lives or struggles of the disabled people that live there or the disabled people that visit.
It's said you can accurately judge a society by how well they take care of the least fortunate among them. Seattle displays it's soul with it's conspicuous lack of access for disabled people city-wide, and the primarily sick and disabled people who live under it's streets and freeways.
Disabled and searching for adventure while on the west coast? I highly recommend Northern California. They go so far as to build wheelchair accessible hiking trails in prime areas of their best parks! Washington State won't even help you out of the...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite places in Seattle for many years. It has a terrific high up view of most of the Seattle waterfront. For those of us with dogs and I mean a dog who needs to exercise and loves to fetch and will reliably return the ball this is a great Park to wear them out. Part of it is quite steep and has a copse of trees at the bottom tossing the ball down is no problem. But if you want the ball to come back and your dog doesn't bring it you're going to regret it walking down to get it. I have read that once upon a time this park was even mentioned in Playboy Magazine as one of the best places to kiss in North America. I suppose or imagine that that would be the night-time View. When the Waterfront and the city Sparkle on beautiful evenings, and the ferries Glide Across The Still Waters like floating cities in the night. Inspiring flights of imagination. When I work swing shift and got off very early in the morning I would drive here and sit and watch these beautiful beautiful visions before finally cruising on to home and a good night's rest. That was before various hijinks cause the park Department to put up barriers that close the park at 10 p.m. now. Between Hamilton and the related Park a little bit east of the area on Admiral, you'll have some of the finest photographic views...
