The Pantry has a pretty strict policy on cancellations/ reschedules. You need to provide ample notice, and even then, you'll get a credit for a future class IF they can fill your space with someone on the wait list. The class ticket is pretty steep, so make sure when you book that you can make the class! Anyway, we took a class called Thai Seafood Feast as a date night to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. The classroom and garden are cute and intimate. We got through a packed agenda and managed to make a chili paste that was used in everything, 1 soup, 1 seafood salad, and 1 fried fish. The end result was delicious, and since the class started at 6 pm, we were all really hungry by 9 pm. We all shared in the making of everything- no one owned making 1 thing from start to finish. That's fine- those are just different ways of conducting a class, but the operating model can impact how involved you are, how much new technique you learn, and maybe even how much you get to socialize with each other. I think more could have been done to get couples talking and interacting and having fun together, because I definitely felt some Seattle freeze set in. Maybe they could allow a glass of wine during cooking (and have us sign a waiver), or maybe the teacher could have taken the time to set the stage by introducing herself and her passion for cooking, and even asked everyone to introduce themselves, why they're here, why they like Thai food, if they've been to Thailand etc. Folks mostly kept to themselves in this particular class. I still give the teacher and Pantry 5 stars and...
Read moreI love doing things in the city besides only going out to eat and drink. This was a really fun cooking class. We are locals and enrolled in the salmon class. Figured that's a good first step for PNWers. The instructor was very helpful and knowledgeable about salmon and having lived in the area my whole life, we even learned new things and new parts you can eat!
I have taken cooking classes in various areas and at various companies and they are all a little bit different. This one is more collaborative where you work on one large dish per course with most of the team and all eat together I have taken others were each small group of whoever you came with makes their own three courses. It kind of depends on your personal style and how busy and involved you like to be which one you would prefer. This class is pretty slow, paced and relaxing and you get to enjoy wine while you were cooking.
Another major plus is that the company is really understanding with food, allergies or restrictions and is able to help you find a class that will work best for you. I really appreciate that with my recent gluten allergy discovery. I have experience, mixed empathy with businesses and would definitely prefer to know if my allergy is a major roadblock to enjoyment and if I would be wasting my money or not. Just be honest!
Overall, they change their classes every month, and I definitely would...
Read moreexpensive class, considering what you end up with. $140 per person. I have been to a handful of other cooking classes, so i would say at this point i have a pretty good idea of roughly what to expect for various price points.
i will do my best to keep this review as concise as i can.
we signed up for a Yucatan cooking class (mexican). I have been to mexico multiple times, and even taken cooking classes there and none of the flavors reminded me of anything in mexico. the pork was dry and flavorless, considering how long we spent discussing all of the ingredients used. the coconut shrimp was ok, but really nothing special, and the soup was very mediocre. my favorite food of the evening was the tortilla strips. i will say, the tortillas were the best part and i actually learned a good skill with those.
the class was nearly 4 hours long and most of it is spent listening to someone describe ingredients rather than getting much hands on experience.
all in all, i feel ripped off. if the food was killer as i had expected it to be, and we got a little more hands on time, this review would probably read a little different. I was truly disappointed with the lack of flavor at the end, and somehow the vibe was just off in general.
f you are looking for a cooking class, i don't know where to recommend going in Seattle, but i can confidently say you will likely have better luck with...
