Horse and Plow is a west county tasting room worth a visit. The attitude is chill, and relaxed. It is really unlike other tasting rooms in Sonoma County.
Gwen first brought Horse and Plow to my attention when she told me they were having music on the patio outside the tasting room on a Friday night. She wanted to go see what it was all about. I thought "Music and Wine... I'm in"
We found Horse and Plow to be a small intimate place with parking spaces for about 15 cars. Luckily an employee was using his creativity to put cars in places you would normally not consider parking. We went inside and sampled a few wines before choosing a bottle to buy (Rose' I believe) and take outside on the patio. Can't remember the name of the band but they were good with a southern rock genre. We met my pest inspector Bill Mashek, and enjoyed a beautiful evening outside, with food we bought from Andy's Produce Market down the street. In the tasting room, you can buy bottles of wine or a growler of wine which is more cost effective if you plan to refill the bottle.
Horse and Plow makes all organic wines and buys from strick organic producers. They have a nice choice of whites and a number of reds including Cab Franc which can be difficult to find in Sonoma County. They also make several varieties of hard cider. Horse and Plow is an unusual place and definitely worth a visit. If nothing else, I recommend coming on a Friday evening with friends and enjoying the...
Read moreIt's not customary for me to write reviews. However, being a die-hard (maybe stubborn) oenologist, I feel it's my duty to report such poxy wine-tasting. Indeed, it seems like it's a fairly great location to DRINK wine (or cider). Nevertheless if you are expecting some true wine TASTING this is NOT the place. Let me underline it once again: if you want to discover and properly analyze wine, it is NOT going to happen over there. It is NOT acceptable to serve wine that was open some day before on a charged tasting. It is NOT acceptable to describe the wine by merely reading its label. It is NOT acceptable not to taste a new bottle before pouring it. Furthermore, it is NOT acceptable not to spot that 3 wines (on 4) are completely oxidized. Though the staff is very warm and friendly, they have no single idea what wine tasting is. I am not blaming them since they are trying their best. However, it is definitely the owner's job to ensure that its staff can handle wine and has sufficient competencies to taste wine, at least just spot...
Read moreWish I would have sorted the reviews from Newest versus Yelp review. Our kids are kids, they run around, they play, they're pretty sweet, but they are kids. Pretty sure one of the owners came over and asked for our kids who were 20 feet away from us to be with our children at all times. Are they supposed to sit on my lap?
If you're not kid friendly, then put it on your website and we won't come. My kids were looking in the fountain, touching the plants (I literally raise them in my enclosed garden at home, so they know to be gentle). The woman with short black hair, assuming owner or manager, said they couldn't speak to guests who were tasting, when my kids were literally not talking.
Nothing more pisses me off than a place that isn't kid friendly, not setting the...
