This is a peaceful and often overlooked park. I think most people pass by without realizing it is a park? And the park has a lot to offer if you want to relax, suntan, have a picnic, go fishing, cool off by the river or watch birds. Its also right next to the oak leaf trail too!
This park is right along Silver Spring Drive so its close to Bayshore and the shopping area yet its far enough away to be very peaceful...especially if you head a little bit south into the park. There I often hear birds calling. A few of the birds sound like falcons or hawks? And that makes perfect sense too since a good chunk of this park is wooded forest.
I do love hiking in the forest along the trails here. And in summer its nice to sit on the rocks along the river too. Very peaceful. I like to sit and watch the wildlife.
And the huge grassy areas would be great for suntanning! Plus its very beautiful when the trees are blooming too!
This park is just north of Lincoln Park and connects to it via the Oak Leaf Trail. And I walk through this area all the time. Even in winter. And yes, a few times I had even walked through the deep snow too! What an adventure I had over here.
And if you want something to read while here, there is a Little Free Library right across the street from this park too.
The bike trail goes through the park too.
There are no kiddie play structures here and no park house or bathrooms. Its just a large green area along...
Read moreEasily one of the busiest trails we visited recently The Milwaukee River Greenway in Estabrook Park has a great location central to Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Glendale and Milwaukees Northeast side. With access to walking hiking and biking trails including a portion of the Oak Leaf Trail the hiking experience of the Greenway is remarkably able to maintain a rather immersive natural hike along the river despite its proximity to highly trafficked roads. With a variety of branching paths and visuals walking the Greenway is definitely a pleasant way to experience the Milwaukee River and get a nature filled afternoon without having to...
Read moreThe Rotary Arboretum starting at the Urban Ecology Center is really great. The switch back trail starting at the top is lovely reclaimed prairie full of wildflowers and native grasses. There is a path from top to bottom along side of the woods that displays huge rock "sculptures" from various geological layers from prehistory and info. Then the walk along the river or through the woods makes for cool hikes that are quite easy depending on path. The paths are well groomed. It can be muddy in a couple of places after a rain but mostly dry even after a rain. It is a jewel...
