Every old-school town has a park and some are as loved and cared for as this one. The ancient trees, and I mean awesome old trees, give voice to the fact that the town's people have dedicated their love and care for a century in order to preserve this plaza's park with such a grand shade place and peaceful lawn. The rotunda is pretty darn large and special. A good place to park your folding chair and space out, thinking about the folks that did exactly that and pondered WW1 instead of a Pandemic.....

It seems that there aren’t many shops left here. I did visit one gift shop that was open and bought a few things. I spent more time circling around the plaza hoping there was more to do. Might have been more exciting years ago.

Old timey for sure. Historic for sure. Nice for a walk through town or to catch some shade under the trees. Ride your bike around the square or walk your pups. Occasional events and music are staged here when they close off the traffic. Food trailers park here on weekends and you can buy a burrito or a drink. Locals gravitate to the park to sit around and mingle. In the heart of town so you have banks, tourist shops, art galleries, coffee shops, the post office, all conveniently close by. Don't miss farmer's market Saturday morning. It's rarely intense, mostly really laid back and sometimes not a soul around, so by west coast standards it needs ambience and a renaissance could take place here like in Santa Fe, but many other tangental aspects of supporting infrastructure and business activity would have to coalesce to make it happen. Socorro seems caught in a hiatus as if in the midst of taking a breath so maybe someday it will catch it's stride once again. But admittedly some folks are really happy that life here has a slower more uneventful pace. The haunting silence of the vast empty spaces and the small towns of the Western States can be one of their most attractive qualities if you can find that peaceful centre within your self. A quiet afternoon in the park in the shade might be exactly what you...

we went at Socorro fest and with highly recommended. Was on a Friday in a Saturday from about 10:00 in the morning till 10:00 in the evening. Was lots of fun with yummy local food vendors especially the taco vendor is shown in my photos. For five bucks you could get a glass and do wine tasting which is also really fun and enjoy the local...
