I did not have a good experience at We R Fabrics. It started out well after speaking with Wendy about the three cushions I needed made. They do have a nice selection of fabric and once I chose one, we proceeded for a bit. Then she began to make mistake after mistake.
When I mentioned that I wanted to review some of the details because I'm paying a lot for these cushions and they need to be correct, she later mentioned that I'm picky. Among the errors, she mentioned things that were not true (like that I said I had a bad experience with someone and measurements in the past), and she was apparently telling the upholsterer the wrong edge for the cushions, which I only realized after seeing his measurements that he'd written down along with a description.
She told me the upholsterer would contact me when he didn't. After I contacted her to get that scheduled, it was over two weeks before I heard from her again. I did have him come out eventually and take measurements, taking with him my foam that I planned to use. I paid him on the spot, but at some point she added that payment into the invoice and I had to remind her that I'd already paid like she told me I had to. That invoice was also charging me for double the batting that we had agreed on.
When I said that I wanted something in writing showing the measurements, she asked if I wanted to verify the measurements and had the guy come back to my house again. After that, she said, "It's good you wanted it that way because he was missing a measurement". She claimed to have told me that, but she was literally telling me that after the fact, and I'm not the one who suggested he come back and re-measure.
She did seem to want me to be happy, but she also didn't seem to know what was going on sometimes. She told me I could come in and meet with her one day but then I got there and they were too busy, telling me I needed an appointment. I do understand that she'd been on vacation and that they were busier than she realized they'd be. However, it was another example of her not seeming to know what was going on.
The last interaction I had with her was at 5pm on a Tuesday. She asked if I was ready to pay the deposit to get the work done and I told her that I wasn't feeling confident about this and wanted to look it all over again. She then said she'd give my file to Trudy so I could call her on Wendy's days off. Fine. But when I called Trudy to give the go ahead, she was on vacation for a week. I never heard from Wendy again and have hired someone else to make the cushions.
I gave two stars because I think they have a nice store, a nice selection of fabric, and I do think the end product would have been nice--if we'd ever been able to get all the details correct and...
Read moreIf you have respect for yourself, find another company for your window treatments needs. The completion of a $5.5K job, paid about 90% upfront, was promised in 6 weeks. It was completed in 24 weeks (5.5 months), and only after two vigorous complaints by me regarding delays, inattentiveness by designer Trudi Kuo, and unresponsiveness by installer Dana. Trudi never acted on her own to provide updates during the four months of delay. Each of the 7 times that my wife received an update from Trudi, my wife had to reach out. Trudi, though always polite, would take several days after a request for an update, and sometimes not answer at all. Practically all of Trudi Kuo's updates and promises turned out to be unfulfilled, namely, false. My wife had to agonize for days before reaching out each time to Trudi after the last broken promise. Installer Dana NEVER replied to phone calls and voice mails - some 7-8 in total, for two separate installations. Dana never apologized. Instead, he showed up for both jobs sulking that I had reported his unresponsiveness to We R Fabrics, and drop half a dozen unnecessary hints that installing curtains is not easy - as if this had anything to do with not answering voice mails for a week. The owner Brian Cruise promised to take responsibility for the overrun in time of four times what was promised, and for how unprofessional Dana and Trudi had been consistently. But in the end, Brian couldn’t help himself but to backpedal on a portion of his promise and demand the remaining trifling 4% of the payment that we hadn’t settled upfront, which we then settled immediately rather than debating the meaning of Brian's "I'll take care of all the remaining charges." One insult too many, this is the reason for leaving this factual review. In retrospect, my wife and I have mainly ourselves to blame for assuming that We R Fabrics' top-end pricing would bring at least...
Read moreI flew into San Diego for a wedding and was enjoying some down time a few hours before the big event before I got a call from the groom. He told he that several of the groomsmen didn’t have pocket squares, and others had some that didn’t match and tasked me two hours before the wedding with finding not only 10 pocket squares, but 10 identical pocket squares. I called all the stores within driving distance of the event where I could make it back on time. None of them had that many matching pocket squares. Most of them officered to order them but once I explained that the wedding was in hours and not days that quickly needed that conversation. I began piecing together all the pocket squares I could find in the area then I came to a store nearby and saw the “We R Fabrics” sign and got an incredible idea. I went in side and was warmly greeted by the girls that worked there. They had an almost overwhelming amount of different fabrics to choose from. Wendy was particularly kind and helped us by not only finding the perfect fabric for these newly crafted squares but also cutting them flawlessly! She diligently took the time to measure out each one then sent us on the way. Wendy not only showed superior customer service but also great customer care. I will be back in San Diego and if I ever need help with anything to do with fabrics I will not forget We R...
