It's about that season again when we put a worm on a hook toss it out and hope we catch a big one. I had the most awesome time going down to Cannon's carp and catfish lake. I did not know what to expect and what I saw made me want to be a part of the establishment. I spoke with the lady on duty which was the wife to the owner I'm sorry I didn't get her name very lovely person. I asked her for t-shirt but they were not any available so I will be back for mine. She gave me a history as to how this place came about. I'm so happy to know that the father to the current owner loved fishing so much that he passed it down to his son and his son hopefully will pass it on to his son so this place can remain a fixture in the community. So let's break things down The grounds are surrounded with vehicles, trailers, a heck of a lot of fishing poles, odds n ends and ins, some people may say it's junk.Honestly I did not expect to see this but it helped to bring together the idea of a man who started this business it appeared to me he wanted to dib dab in a lot of things to make sure the cannons lake was maintained. It seems as though it just became overwhelming for one person to do. Hobbies are forever! So I get it. I personally am in love with the entire look but I would love to help whenever I'm in South Carolina I would love to spend a couple of days helping this family-owned business to sell bait, clean up garbage , welcome customers and even if I could and it's accepted share some ideas and help to implement them. I'm not asking for pay surely we can talk about it. Because I see this place as definitely a needed get away for the experience fisherman as well as the novice or just those who want to watch. So guys if you're reading this please let's talk send me a message I hope the young lady remember who I am I told her I came all the way from NY just to fish this lake. Now let's talk about the fishing, there are two sides one holds catfish and brim and some other species, the other holds carp. Some of the fish caught here are extremely large. The lake has a filtration system which helps to keep the water maintained and the fish thriving. I interviewed a couple of regulars who said "this place restocks1000s of lbs fish and it's been good for the community ." " Sometimes I catch sometimes I don't but it's worth it." So I placed on a chicken liver and I went fishing. I caught my first 3lb Blue channel, I had to wear it out before Ianded it and it was worth it. Of course I was looking for the gigantic 5 to 8 pounder catfish that I was told are often seen pulled from this lake. Nonetheless I was impressed . To enter the property is $15 per day is it worth it? I certainly think so especially due to all the details that we as the customer don't see that must be taken care of ,$15 is not bad at all. In case you want to make a day of it I suggest you start at opening hour, bring your snacks, food, drinks but make sure you place garbage in the receptacles available to help to keep the place maintained. Everyone do their part so that we can help the owner maintain this great recreational site. A place to bring your kids there's plenty of shaded area in case it's a hot humid hazy day. There's bait and some tackle for purchase. No need to fish anywhere else when you're looking for catfish and carp. Yes everyday is not a I caught a fish day because if it was then there would not be a fish available to anyone else the next day. Fishing is not always about catching it's about learning it's about enjoying the environment. It's about meeting new people. I had the pleasure to run into a group of young males and females who had their fishing poles, chairs and ready for fun. I was totally amazed not one of them pulled out their phones not one of them were disrespectful not one of them lit up a cigarette or a blunt they laughed and talk amongst themselves and enjoyed their time. This is the atmosphere this place helps to cultivate. But as I always say check it out for yourself. I liked the red white...

Read moreI've fished here 3 times in the past year with a few buddies. We never got a single bite. In all 3 times I've been there, I've only seen one fish pulled in by other anglers (a carp). I tried half a dozen lures (the ones that always catch fish at other ponds/lakes) and I tried every kind of cut bait, live bait and I've never seen any evidence of fish in their lakes. I'm a fairly experienced fisherman and I have rarely been to a hole that hasn't yielded at least a few fish--except...
