It's like finding an oasis in the desert!
Last fall I'd moved from Minnesota, where I was spoiled for choice when it came to huge Asian markets and grocery stores, to Huntington, where there appears to not be a single one within the city. But last week my supplies finally ran out and so I embarked on an epic road-trip to find a quality Asian food market. Of the 3 options I've found and investigated thus far, New Asian Market is by far the best, both in terms of selection and price.
They carry a plethora of packaged goods; from noodles and rice, to spices, to sauces, to snacks, to canned veggies. They also have seafood tanks, a fresh fruit and veg section, a section of cooking implements, and in the back a refrigerator/freezer section with a respectable variety of options from gyoza to squid.
I appreciated the variety of Asian countries' foods that were represented for sale. And I appreciated that the products were FROM those countries, rather than Americanized version brands.
The employees were friendly and helpful, and the store appeared clean and well taken care of. No spoilage or fruit flies were observed. The scent of the live tanks was detectable, but NOT off-putting. The parking was non-metered and fairly easy to find a spot within a 40 second walk.
I will certainly be back the next time I need to resupply. It's worth the drive from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI use to frequent there back in 2006-2008 and it was amazing back then. Clean, fresh food was not rotting, the live sea food was healthy and no dead and rotting sea creatures {like crabs} were left in the tanks. The employees were friendly. Now it is the opposite. There were a lot of dead sea creatures in the tanks, the tanks were dirty and you can tell they had been dirty for quite some time. There were a bunch of rotting foods mixed in with fresh foods. The cashier woman was rude toward me no matter how nice I was. I did notice she was pretty nice to the other customers...the Asians and Indians that entered. The tiny bit she did say to me, she held a tone that was dripping with disgust. I did notice one other white person enter, a man, and she watched him like a hawk from her perch as he went straight down the aisle with in her sights. The man {employee} was pretty nice to me, but I noticed I was the only one he would follow around the tiny store. He never offered to help me, just would follow. When I stopped he would stop and watch me. There were plenty of others shopping. No one was following them or treating them the way I was being treated. It's sad to have seen that store go so far down hill. I will not go back there. I wouldn't refer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI LOVE THIS PLACE!!! It has BUBBLE TEA ingredients and Dried herbs and Tea flowers in there natural form at such low prices it really is PERFECT! The only downside is that a good amount of there products are labeled in every language accept English but I can look past that... And if I have a reason to know what they say I can always ask a shop keeper in the store because most of them speak both English and there language as well. So if need to know about one of the products I can ask! They also sell Cook wear of various types like hot pots and steam rice cookers, Bamboo rice steamers, dish's that you find in the Chinese restaurants, fresh fish, difficult to find fruits and fresh herbs along with Outrageously large bags of rice at amazing prices! I have absolutely no need for a restaurant sized bag of rice but even I can...
