Sick Park. It's so so awesome. Everything is so skateable, smooth, perfect transitions, everything is just perfect you'll never get bored of the incredible features but they change it up all the time just in case. It's clean, painted friendly and accepting. It's covered from sun and rain. It's just the raddest, gnarliest best place to skate ever. There are plenty of great cement parks around the city but this is the only place to get that sick feeling that only comes from wood, but don't worry, the deep end of the bowl has amazing pool coping that sounds incredible, the shallow end has diamond coping so it sounds sick too! There is no end to the creativity that can come out of the street course, your brain will just explode from the possibilities. The mini ramp is literally the funnest in the world; it has a vert extension, an extension with a parking block, a closed end with pockets, a spine and two different coping heights. Im sorry for going off like this but if Southside ceased to exist, Houston would be immediately diminished. This place is a cultural icon of the city, like, try to picture Rome without the Vatican City, Rio de Janeiro without O Cristo Redentor, Barcelona without La sagrada Familia, Paris without the Eiffel Tower. Southside is just the best this city has to offer. So get a membership, or not, don't regret paying at the door. Because it is so so worth it. This place is the church of gnar, a temple of sick, rad, gnar. Period. The end. It's the alpha and the omega. It's the raddest radicalization, makes ISIS look like puppy dogs and rainbows... and I don't work there, I'm just a...
Read moreThis review is for the lessons only. He (Dillon) was a pleasant person, but this was not a very good experience for my 8yo. He came out not learning much of anything. The teacher focused on repetition and while that is important for learning independently, the child is there to gain different skills and practice on their own time. He did the same one skill over and over for an hour without much correction even though my child had an improper stance. The teacher seemed distracted with his phone and peers and seemed too tired for the lesson. My child had many private lessons with many different teachers and this was the only one where he came out unconfident and worse than before. Maybe he does better with adults, but I would not recommend for children.
*Edit for owner's response... Honestly it speaks for itself. Sad they are blaming a child (who had no communication problems..) They get so defensive over every negative review. I wasn't rude, just honest so other parents can...
Read moreA couple weeks ago I ordered everything needed for a full setup from their site since I don't have time to go in person due to classes. Order prep was fast and when an issue came up with a part I had chosen (hardware had just gone out of stock), they were quick to communicate it and remedy the situation after giving me some options for other hardware. I also asked if they could grip the deck since I wasn't sure how bad I would mess up the job and end up with a lot of air bubbles. When it was delivered not only was the deck gripped and the replacement hardware included, some extra hardware was there too. Rose Gold Allen bolts. If it was to make up for the hardware issue then that was pretty generous of them. I'm liking my setup so far, makes getting around campus way easier and it's just fun to be on it. I'll visit the shop in person eventually, but this was a good first impression for it being all digital....
