This food truck is legit!! If you’re looking for takeaway, go here. I live around the corner and finally got a chance to try. We had the plantain dish and the rice & bean dish. Both were delicious and well-balanced. A very nice hint of spice throughout, which could feel too spicy to some. We recommend pairing with an old fashion, which can help take the edge off of needed. Also, if you’re a safe eater, this food is amazing but also won’t push you too far outside your comfort zone. It’s warm has some familiar flavors. Don’t let the price scare you; the portions are very generous we each easily got two meals out of each of our portions (and we both eat a lot). Roody was very kind, helpful, and informative. Side note: My friend is a medical provider and she insists I also note that Roody’s sanitary practices were solid, which is important: because pandemic. He was very clean in how he prepared our food directly after someone else’s (and delivering to his car): changed gloves, didn’t directly touch our food, etc. I didn’t notice because it’s not something I would usually notice, but I find it comforting to know he impressed my doctor friend. PS my only critique is that Roody updates when/where he’s going to be serving. The website is down and it’s hard to know where he will he on a given night. This will help...
Read moreI ate at the Makaya Caters food truck during a farmers market a few weeks ago and it honestly blew me away. My girlfriend and I got the breakfast bowl, the lunch bowl with tofu, and a side of fried plantains. Even though we were a little skeptical on the price, the quality and amount of food we got was all totally worth it! It became both brunch and dinner. The plantains were perfectly fried - just charred enough on the edges to give it a fantastic crunch - with a flavorful cinnamon coating. The breakfast bowl consisted of seasoned, fried potatoes as a base layer, then scrambled eggs with cheese, topped with a cabbage and carrot slaw. I am not one to take my time eating but each bite had so much flavor I slowed down to enjoy every one. The lunch bowl was also great! It had fried rice and black beans on the bottom, followed by a curry sauce with tofu, and the slaw on top. The flavorful, creamy curry sauce really made this dish stand out, and the texture + flavor of the tofu made my girlfriend do a double take. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone in SLC and definitely would like...
Read moreWow! We had the opportunity to try this unique and authentic cuisine at their Haitian Street Food Pop-Up Restaurant at Shades of Pale. What an awesome treat! I've never had Haitian food before, and now I just want more. We tried the pulled pork tacos, the chicken plantain sliders, and then for good measure we tried the pulled pork plantain sliders. I'm so glad we did! The texture of the plantains sandwiching the hot and spicy pikliz and the out of this world, Haitian-spiced pulled pork, topped with an an avocado aioli is perfection. The dishes are served with a hearty serving of a sort of dirty rice and red beans all mixed together. It's really good and compliments the spices from the pikliz, pork and chicken quite well. I can't wait to see them again and to try something new or have some more of that pulled pork. I would seek out this food, you...
