Sad to write this, we just had a pretty weird experience there. I’ve loved Red Iguana and love that they actually serve real Mexican not just TexMex. My wife scheduled a large reservation tonight, some people bailed night before. She called to make sure it was okay and was transferred to the down town store where they said as long as the party is over 8 there would be no issue. We get to the RI 2 restaurant tonight and she tried to explain the situation and was told that she was told wrong and they were going to be charging us a $25/person cancelation fee. She was directed to their website where it explains this is their policy. Now it’s fine that there’s a policy but when one of your stores says another thing then it looks messy. My family also showed up late despite us begging them to get on time but they also refused to seat us until everyone was present so we had half our party waiting in the small lobby. Finally we get seated and my mom brought a cake for us to celebrate my birthday, surprise, there is also a “bring your own cake” fee…per person eating cake.
Total food bill was only $209 for like 12 people but we incurred over $100 in other fees 👀. My wife joked that it felt like we were flying with Spirit airlines.
Now I have to give a shout out to our server who was tiptoeing around his manager to cut us slack with some things but the manager was pretty relentless in making sure these charges were made.
In the past it had felt like a family atmosphere, tonight it felt like I was the subject of how they can add as many hidden fees to our bill as possible, a weird experience at a restaurant.
Anyways, it’s fine if these are your policies but man they really affect the customer experience and makes us...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to try a new place. When we first got there (Friday 7p) they said it would be about a 40-minute wait. They take your name & phone number and text you when your table is ready. We only had to wait about 20 minutes. They were definitely busy, but since it was just the two of us we got in quick.
They have a pretty extensive menu selection. I decided to try one of the combination platters called Red Iguana ($20.99). It had cheese enchilada, a taco a la Iguana , a chile relleno and a beef tostada. Also comes with rice and beans You better be hungry if you're going to get this.
My wife got the Enchilada Suizas ($16.29) with rice and beans. They took our drink order and brought out chips and salsa. The chips were not as good as I was hoping, but not terrible. The salsa is hotter than most places, but was really good. They only took about 10 minutes on our food was out hot and ready.
Once our food came, out we dug in and my food was amazing. They definitely live up to all the reviews. When my wife tried her two enchiladas they were a little too sweet for her liking. She has had this dish at other restaurants and it wasn't sweet. I think it was the mole. I tried it and I don't think I would ever get that, way too sweet. She ended up eating some of mine.
Overall the atmosphere and the service was exceptional. Our waiter, Manny was very attentive and polite. The location is in an interesting part of town, we did have a couple of homeless guys come walking by the window. Didn't really bother us, but was interesting.
We definitely love this place and we'll be coming back for sure. The food seems very authentic and well...
Read moreWhenever my family and I are in the vicinity, we always make it a point to eat at this restaurant. The food there is simply outstanding. As soon as you are seated, the staff brings out a delightful assortment of chips and salsa to enjoy.
During our visit, I had the pleasure of trying the red iguana plate, which was a medley of different flavors and textures. It was an exciting culinary adventure to taste all the unique elements on the plate. Additionally, we ordered the mole aramillo, which turned out to be incredibly delicious. The flavor of the mole was unlike anything I had ever tried before, and it left a lasting impression.
For my children, they opted for the grilled cheese beef taco and top sirloin fajitas meal. I must mention that the restaurant also offers French fries, which was a relief for us as we have a picky eater in our family. The variety of options on the menu certainly caters to different preferences.
One noteworthy aspect of this restaurant is their willingness to provide a sampler plate of moles for those who have never had the opportunity to experience them. This gesture goes a long way in ensuring that customers feel at ease in making their choice. However, I must warn you that this place gets busy very quickly, so I highly recommend planning ahead. Additionally, parking can be a bit tight, so it would be wise to factor that into your arrangements.
In conclusion, I cannot stress enough that if you have a fondness for Mexican cuisine, this restaurant is an absolute must-try. The quality of the food, coupled with the friendly and attentive staff, creates an exceptional...
