I will also be returning to Plato’s Closet. (And never to Hut No. 8). I went to the Valley location late last year with a few grocery size bags to sell. All of my items were in great condition, in much better condition than half the clothes in the store. I browsed while I waited and it was difficult to even look at some things because items were twisted around hangers and falling on the floor, etc. This was the fourth round of clothes I had taken from my closet to sell; a lot of my nicer things, and I had gone to Plato’s for the first 3. I thought I’d try Hut 8 to see if I could get a little more for my items than I had been getting, but boy was I wrong! They bought about $250-300 (retail) worth of my clothing, including a brand new (with tags) LuLaRoe long sleeve dress that retails for $60, for $5.35. Total. That’s not a typo. Unfortunately I didn’t look at exactly what they took until I got to the car, when I realized that she didn’t give me a receipt. I went back in and asked for one. I looked at the receipt and saw they were selling my clothes for only ONE DOLLAR. They say you get 30-40% of what they sell it for, which means I was getting roughly .30 CENTS for each item. Including the brand new dress. At this point I was back in my car on my way home so I called and asked for the manager. I told her the situation and she told me that they have dollar sales, and that since my clothes had signs of wear, they would be sold at the dollar sale. I told her about the new dress and she said that shouldn’t be the case but she’d look into it. I never heard back; I should’ve followed up but things got busy with the holidays. I feel completely ripped off and taken advantage of. There is absolutely no way they would sell that dress for $1, as they had tiny tank tops that were really worn and stretched out for $6. I know I shouldn’t expect to get a huge amount when selling clothes like this, but this is completely ridiculous. I won’t ever go back to Hut No. 8 and I tell everyone not to go there. When they hear what happened to me, they agree!
Edit: After reading comments I see that they make you leave your purse outside the dressing room? I understand trying to prevent theft but thats pushing it. A wall of purses hanging on doors with no direct supervision is asking for theft, especially in this town. The post was from years ago but I hope you don’t still have numerous employees (the employees who the post was about) commenting and arguing with a customer on a...
Read moreI Rate this company as 0 stars as for I buy storage units and was looking for a place to quickly sell my clothes that I get from the storage units. Saturday I called they said bring them on down, than I get there 20 minutes later they say oh we just hit our spending limit so we can't buy anything more today, but we can buy them tomorrow I than asked if I could just leave the bag for them to go through and pick up a check when I can get back. They answered yes so I did. An employee called later and told me that they would only buy 2 or 3 Items, I was disappointed but said OK. Because of weather I closed my store and went home before they opened and had the next day off and then went in on Wednesday when I had some free time and got informed their was only a curtain amount of hours that they hold the items and then they donate everything and don't issue a check for anything that they offered before. They claimed that they called several times but the only call I got from them was the original call about how many Items they would buy and the $5.40 that they would pay for the 2 or 3 items and never once brought up the amount of time before they needed...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite places to shop because I appreciate the business model. However, the customer service is very hit-or-miss. I worked 8 years as a manager in one of the stores this store resells, and the customer service here would have never flown in my store. I've never had stellar service but I at least get greeted sometimes and maybe checked on mid-shop. More often than not, I unfortunately don't get that much. I can spend 5 minutes in a section with an associate doing go-backs, and they won't check on me, let alone say "hi." Check-out can be stiff and awkward; some associates seem to feel annoyed or interrupted when I seek to make a purchase. It was almost enough to make me change my mind. For a store that advertises smiles and fun, it struggles to actually live that culture. I hope management considers re-examining their customer service training...
