It was a lil bit country a lil bit rock and roll. Wife and I arriving 5 min late 11:00 entered and saw Peter on TV and a crowd outside the auditorium. Went inside to a PACKED house. The sermon: Where your treasures are, there is your God. A talk on Valentines Day. 4th grade puppy love and his wife. A lil bit Bakers and a lil bit Cleavers. I guess it's a time to start families and build houses, churches or whatever else you might have an impulse to do. While communities and families are disintegrating. No end times here. Just Dance dance Dance . Seminars on relationships, finances, and estate planning are offered during the week. For a fee. The only enlightenment I got was electronic. I counted 50 cameras (I felt watched) and observed subliminal merchandising throughout. The mannequin guarding the T-Shirt table was clever. A li'l bit the Hale Bops and a li`l bit We are the World. Collection came, music played and we had to stand to facilitate the deep slender buckets being passed. One bucket per aisle. So, 2 people to a section, one staring with 6 buckets in the front. and the other one ending with the full buckets at the back. Patronized 10% from the singer on stage. Invited to come on down after, I chicken out , because you really couldn't strike up a conversation with any of workers anywhere else. Everyone seemed preoccupied. My wife enjoyed Peters talk about them as a couple w/ photos. A RomCom. When are the kids coming? Let them preach like their Dad. I wonder their love language. Best take away DON'T LOOK FOR HEAVEN IN YOUR WIFE. Come see the new inventions under the BigTop. You might get an impulse to do something new and different. Which has been our downfall from the industrial revolution. I wonder why there is no open Q&A in a setting like this. Or open chats anonymously on cells. I mean if you worship TECH, make use of it to eliminate...
Read moreI have tried many churches looking for sermons that are engaging stories I can apply to my life. I've found the right place at Substance. Pastor Peter Haas is the main pastor. He is an incredibly engaging speaker whose sermons entertain while providing insight, information, motivation, and hope. Many times, a guest speaker does the sermon. I am consistently impressed by these visitors, who are often pastors but sometimes represent other fields. Last week, Pastor Hass brought a Christian singer who spoke about growing up as the daughter of a Christian singer and about becoming one herself. She was a great speaker as well as an excellent musician. The music and lighting are always extremely well done, perhaps because Pastor Peter started out as a nightclub DJ. While he was DJing he had an experience where he heard God's calling. He listened. He set out on the path which brought him to "plant" Substance. There are three campuses locally, in Downtown Minneapolis, Spring Lake Park, and Maple Grove (I think that's where the Westside branch is located anyway) , and one in Monterrey, Mexico so far. Substance offers many small groups for adults to join and offers an amazingly fun variety of groups for kids in the summer time. Last year my daughter was in the Spanish language learning group and loved it. My kids seem to really like their Sunday morning groups year round. I think it's a great place to go if you're interested in trying a new Church. It's considered a non-denominational church, I believe. It's open to all. I'm really glad I tried it out two...
Read moreFinally a church and a pastor that discuss important issues our culture and society are facing today. Most churches provide comfort food by discussing only what people want to hear and be told, without ever really talking about controversial issues that are neccessary to discuss in order to grow and develop ones faith.
Having come from the club and rave scene, and battling first hand with the temptations of this world, pastor Peter Haas is able to connect with people on a very personal level that many pastors cant relate on.
Also if you saw the way he dressed, you would think at times pastor peter was a Buckle or hot topic manager lol. Point being, looks matter very little to Jesus, and Peter wont judge you either on how you look but instead will love you in a Christ Centered way that will immediately include you in this amazing family, (not cult) that exist at Substance.
If you come from a broken family like I did, or are struggling with substance, or emotional and physical abuse, if you want to feel accepted as you are, if you have the desire to live a full and rich life and be a part of something incredible, then you need to be here at Substance. So I invite you to come spend your Sundays with us at Substance Church :)
And if you wanna get to know me better too, Im the 7 foot 3 guy at Substance, you...
