My first experience was very bad. It was the summer of 2013. My family and I were traveling through Springfield and stopped here at the Lincoln Tomb at 4:30 PM and we walked over to the tomb to go inside the door was locked, so we waited for someone to come out. When that happened the man at the door got in my little face and angrily said NO I CAN'T LET YOU IN! I was upset and angry and cried for three days following this incident. The place closes at 5 pm but no where on their website or even at the site itself does it say that you cannot go in the tomb after a certain time. So if I show up at 4:58 PM I can expect to walk right in. It took my family and I three more years before we got to go back up to Springfield. We ended up there in the summer of 2016 and this time I felt like I had to sneak my way in before I would get yelled at again and we even showed up this time a whole lot earlier in the day. The summer of 2019 came and I took my brother to Springfield and I wanted to go to the tomb but was scared that if I went to late in the day I would get yelled at again so we did not go. To this day I am scared to go back to the tomb but I would like to return. Lincoln was my very favorite President I have studied him and his Presidency all of my life and this is how I am treated on my very first visit I may not return unless I have some kind of escort with me in order to get in, I am that scared. Other than that the site itself is wonderful when I finally did...

Read moreWhat a beautiful and peaceful monument and place for one of our countries most beloved Presidents. We have always wanted to see it so when our family trip took us near by we made sure to stop and I'm so glad we did. The cemetery in general is gorgeous and if we had had more time I would have enjoyed walking the grounds. The monument is very well done and we take enjoyed reading and the plaques and history notes. Sadly, the outside upper level was closed when we went but that would have been an interesting view.
The monument is a short walk from the parking lot and is easily accessible by wheelchair, walker or those using a walking aid (a member of our party had mobility issues and did just fine). There are clean bathrooms on one side of the parking lot. The parking lot is small but it doesn't take long to walk through the monument so there is a lot of turn around for parking spaces. We really...
