This was the absolute pinnacle of our trip to Napa Valley. I'm glad we went here last, because if we had started here... everything else would have been a disappointment. If you visit one winery on your trip, make AXR the one.

First, our wine host Melissa was a complete joy to spend 2 hours with. By the end of our tasting, she was like family. Her knowledge of wine is amazing and we learned a lot. She also gave us a quick tour of the property on foot despite the rain. We may have even tasted a wine or two not on the list.

Second, the wines are quite honestly the best I've had top to bottom. The grenache was a pleasant surprise. Their 2021 line-up tastes like something that's been aging for 6 years vs 3. There is no doubt these wines will age spectacularly and if you are a collector, they source from single vineyards that are limited and hard to get your hands on.

Third, winemaker Jean Hoefliger, is in very high demand in the valley and working with some great wineries. His creativity and Bordeaux background are nothing like I've experienced. I can't say enough about the structure, depth and fruit that he ties together... it's simply "joy" in a bottle.

Needless to say, we joined the club and are looking forward to...

Axr has been on our group’s “to visit” list for many years and I’m so glad we did this time! Our host, Melissa, was an absolute highlight of our trip and exactly what you want in a host - giving us a lot of context about the property and history of Axr and the owners and winemaker Jean while still going with the flow of our group’s energy and taking our feedback and prererences so thoughtfully in curating a wonderful tasting with several really special bonus pours. The property is stunning and tasting in the old cottage is gorgeous, but the portfolio of wines was the real standout. Jean is making multiple styles and varietals at approachable price points that really shine (delicious French style Chardonnay, a Zin/petite sirah/malbec blend) as well as your classic powerhouse single congested Cabernets suitable for any collector. And Melissa guided us through both in a friendly and easy going way that was lovely! Highly recommend...

Every single wine at AXR is wonderful from light whites to bold reds, but the visit to the winery is made special by Jeff. After visiting Napa for many years, I can say with certainty he’s the magic and heart of the entire Napa Valley - and I do not say that lightly. If you come, you HAVE to ask for him. He’s extremely knowledgeable about the wine and property, but more than anything passionate about what the vineyard standards for and ensures you have the best experience possible. He is everything you hope to get out of tasting guide at a vineyard. We can’t wait to come back and will be asking for him for years to come! Thank you Jeff for sharing your love with us & AXR for giving us the gift of...

This is our second time to AXR winery. We have been up to Napa about 4-5 times. We have been to all the trendy and large wineries. We wanted something different. What a treat every time. The people that work here are an absolute pleasure to be around. Tons of fun and laughs. The wine is absolutely the secret of Napa. It’s very very good. Super delicious and smooth. It’s almost like I’m doing myself a disservice by sharing how great they are. We plan to keep coming back again and again You can either get John or Aida. They are both great. The winemaker/owner has an absolute passion for what he is doing here and he is making wine in small batches. Highly recommend if you love a beautiful place with great wine.

This was a recommendation from another winery and we took a chance dropped by without an appt. They couldn't get us in for a full tasting but said we could do a couple of quick pours. Well, that became many pours, and we were very impressed. The grounds were enchanting, and the historic homes were gorgeously decorated. One of their tasting areas, Fairy circle, is magical and set among tall sequoias. We thoroughly enjoyed the wine and the staff we met. There were several dogs on site, which made it even more special. Everything about this property and wine was lovely. The decor in the various tasting areas is spectacular. This is a must do!!
