I don't want to go so far as to say the fates brought me to this store, but I don't know that I have any other choice. It must have been fate!
I was in town for a concert and saw the listing for STL Rocks while looking near the venue prior to my visit. As a lover of gemstone rings, I was delighted and made note to visit the store while I was in town.
Nearly thwarted by incorrect Google directions: "Your destination is on your right!" (no, it was not), I persisted and found the store on the next block (note to those using Google Maps directions to find the store).
I had been listening to Fiona Apple on my drive there, so I was shocked when Erik started playing one of her albums just a few moments after I entered the store. I had to share the coincidence and we started talking about music and they introduced me to the Jon Brion version of Extraordinary Machine (a LIFE CHANGER).
Erik and Abbey (the owner/operators) are wonderful. The store is EXACTLY what you would hope for it to be: full of fantastic products with owners who are warm, welcoming, and engaged. I was in search of a ring (perpetually), and have had an extremely difficult time finding what I'm looking for. I was genuinely overwhelmed by the options at STL Rocks- Abbey (bless her) spent nearly an hour exploring ring options with me. Abbey and I have eerily similar tastes, so there were so many I was drawn to (a very rare occurrence). At one point, I had over 20 rings set aside that were in consideration. Abbey was patient with me as I deliberated, and she also provided much appreciated advice. I ended up (somehow) whittling down to three rings though it was very difficult. Keep in mind, I almost never find a single ring I like enough to purchase--let alone multiple. STL Rocks is what my ring dreams are made of!
There's a lot more to the store that I didn't even get the chance to explore due to limited time. Still, I departed, happily dazed and a bit stupefied by the experience. lt was surreal...did that really happen? Thankfully, I have proof in the form of beautiful new rings and a few lovely bracelets.
If I lived nearby, it would be a regular haunt, certainly. From the short time I was there, I was able to witness a few regulars, whom Abbey and Erik greeted with warmth and camaraderie. It was JUST the place I was looking for -- and I will begrudgingly conclude with the absolutely cheesy pun: it is a true GEM of a store (oof). But it IS! I highly...
Read moreFirst of all, the owners are incredibly patient and accommodating which is so important to me as a customer who really likes to spend a while when I shop. Especially in a metaphysical store, the energy within the store and by the humans in it MATTERS!! They brought several pieces from their back storage for me to have additional options to consider which made me feel valued. Not to mention their selection is comprehensive and informative. One thing I look for while shopping for crystals is the shop’s marketing and knowledge of their products. For example, noting the difference between heat-treated amethyst and natural citrine. Its important to be able to trust in the product that is being sold to you and they do a great job at this. One thing I wish they had is true selenite in addition to their supply of satin spar. Otherwise, their directly-sourced approach is what allows their prices to be extremely fair and ethical. I am so sad that I live in KC or this would surely be my #1 spot. It is a must-stop, local shop in St. Louis. They are the epitome of the perfect business model for a...
Read moreI drove all the way down to Cherokee street from imperial to have a couple items looked at. I walked in and it was busy with people looking around. They had a good size variety of things walked up to the counter and asked the gentleman working there if he could take a look and let me know his opinion. Before I could get done talking he says "I don't have the time right now!" There was no one else at the counter surprised by his interruption and dismissive demeanor. I stated it would only take a seconds and he cut me off with " I don't have the time now". Meanwhile no one is walking up to the counter while he's been feigning applying hand sanitizer for an excessive amount of time and looking over me as tho there's a line growing. It became incredibly awkward. And I decided to just exit. I also had planned to buy my wife and three daughters and son something since I made the trip however. That was the most uncomfortable I have ever been in a retail situation...
