My wife booked our stay at Benton Park In n to be fairly close to the Robert A. Young Federal Building, Downtown. I was attending my USA Citizenship Interview and was pretty stressed over it. Dan and Rosie made it a delight, I had asked Dan to pre-book a cab to take me over to my appointment, which by the time I needed to leave had not appeared and they were trying to find one, So Dan graciously took me over for the appointment.||The building is a beautiful old red brick building with well appointed rooms, we were in the Thomas Hart Benton Suite, I relaxed in the Hot Tub every night, so relaxing to just ease the stress and muscles. The pictures are a great representation.||The breakfasts were fantastic, We had Omelet with bacon and a small apple pastry, Pecan Oatmeal Waffles with Maple syrup and sausage links, A mixed pepper frittata with bacon, and French toast with a beautiful cinnamon apple topping, toast, and fresh brewed coffee or tea every morning also. Breakfasts aren't your usual fried eggs etc.. they are wonderful.||Rosie is an absolute bundle of fun, yes she is a bigger breed, pitbull, a rescue, and she is just a real sweetie, she has a deep bark when you come in or walk downstairs if she is there, she'll come running over to greet you with her tail wagging, I know some people are worried about Pitbulls and bigger breeds, but she is just a big softy. She loves people. And I for one after a few days getting to know her, miss her, and I'm a cat guy.||There are lots of nice cafes and restaurants nearby, my two favorites were The Blues City Deli, the sandwiches are excellent, and their homemade Pastrami is some of the best I've ever had. The other a bit more upmarket is The Sydney Street Cafe, more French/Japanese Fusion fine dining. But Dan has a map in his info folder in your room and copies he can give you of the local cafes/restaurants within a few minutes walking or driving distance.||Dan is the most gracious host, where nothing is too much trouble. When I return to St. Louis, I will be staying with Dan and my new...
Read moreThe Benton Park Inn is just such a fun and cool place to stay, at a very reasonable price for the quality of stay. We went to the Botanical Gardens Garden Glow (7 minutes away), ate on The Hill (5 minutes away), and this morning went to Soulard Market (4 minutes away!). The Inn is very conveniently located, has private parking in the back of the Inn, and while it was built in 1895, it is beautifully updated, and decorated so nicely for Christmas!
Dan Kelly, the owner and Innkeeper, is an actor and teacher, as well as the NICEST person you could ever hope to meet! He made our stay so special, calling me in advance to work out all the details and make sure we had everything we needed in advance. Dan is a super friendly and tremendously interesting and fun person to visit with, and a GREAT cook! We had the breakfast of a lifetime this morning, everything was absolutely delicious and in such a nice setting, with a beautifully appointed table! Rosie is Dan's dog, and she is also a great addition to the Inn, as she is great with people!
This was such a fun and special getaway for my wife and I, and we will definitely be back! Highly recommended, and thank you SO MUCH, Dan, for such fun and...
Read moreGreat place to stay. Although the neighborhood may look dicey on the way to the place, if you come through town it is only about 4 blocks from the highway for quick maneuverability around town. Once at the inn you will see that you are in an old section of town that has been revitalized. It has several neighborhood restaurants that were quite tasty and within easy walking distance; especially the Brazilian restaurant which is a must dine. Dan was a very cordial host and provided a clean establishment with very good breakfast cuisine. If you have a particular food preference or avoidance he'll be happy to accomodate you. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. You do not share a bathroom with anyone. It even has an in room heater/air fan/white noise machine to put the room to your comfort level. The only disadvantage I could see would be that it appeared that all rooms were upstairs, so if you have a disability this may be a stopper. You could share the main fridge for any cold items you may have with you also. We visited the botanical gardens, zoo, and the "Arch" and all were easy and...
