The only thing that's keeping me from giving it a zero is the fact that I can't do that and the fact that there are some nice people, but you have to fit in certain niches in order to go here. VERY UNORGANIZED! I can't express that enough. And in addition most people DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING in administration and registrar. I had to quite literally BATTLE them FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER just to re-enroll because they wanted to put charges against me which didn't apply to me and simply they didn't understand what I was saying to them. If you don't know, don't work in a position like that. Simple as that. I'm glad that I'm leaving after this semester because I have a very low tolerance for idiots. This place is crawling with them. In addition to having to battle them for the entire summer and just barely managing to squeeze into the Fall Semester, I felt very ridiculed and discriminated against because I had to push back on them. For example, I went in person to ask for a Q-Drop for one of my courses I was taking (because me and my determined self I thought I could do it but I simply couldn't) and they tried to push me out the door saying that I could do it online. Of course I know I can do it online but at least I took the time out of my day to go in person and ask you which leads me to another point: They simply do not like dealing with people on a day to day basis. That's how I feel at least. On top of that, they say they accommodate to the disabled to which they really don't do so. I had a friend who was disabled, just about everything was hard for them to access especially the website [which is where all the professors post everything btw]. So yeah, Tarleton said they are a disabled-friendly school just to attract some more people when in all reality they could care less about you and your quality of education. They truly only care about how many freshman they can rake in. And they are not family-oriented school like they claim.
Overall, practice what you preach. If you very heavily claim you're a family oriented school but you're really not, don't say that you are. If you say you also accommodate to the disabled but don't, do not say that you do accommodate just to bring in more money. IF YOU DECEIVE IN GENERAL, IT'S WRONG. And if you don't know what you're doing or don't want to deal with people, well then you shouldn't have applied for a job in registrar or...
Read moreI strongly dislike this school. I wish I could give it a zero for my experience so far. Every semester I consider dropping out and transferring to a another uni because of how terrible it is(I probably should at this point). The professors are okay but good lord I learned about how little they make and it is extremely unfair. The tarleton website is god awful. I feel like the rinky dinky websites I surfed on in elementary school in the late 2000s ran better than this. The admins seem to hate everyone. I always get weird glances and bad attitude whenever I have problems which is always. I had my recent advising meeting cancelled because the advisor assumed I didnt want to meet for some reason. Just gave me recs for classes I should take even though I had so many questions other than what classes I need to take. I feel like I pay so much and nothing ever gets done. The year I moved here, people complained about lack of parking and housing so what does Tarleton do? Break ground on some event center... cuz they care more about money than actually retaining students. I keep hearing about new dorms being built but where? Theres no space for expanision unless they plan on buying up properties like my apartment where lots of students live to get it done Don't even get me started on this podunk town either. I've never met such awfully mannered, self centered people before in my life. If you aren't from here or don't like putting up with sleepless nights full of partying teens and race cars and 1 ton trucks going up and down your street, find another uni. Update 08/2025: I dropped out of Tarleton, moved out of state, and am now attending...
Read moreI received my Bachelor's degree from Texas A&M. I know what a good school looks and feels like. Tarleton is not that. I enrolled in Tarleton to pursue an interest in psychology. Tarleton has an on-line psych program. ...supposedly. The word you will see over and over in the reviews is UNORGANIZED. I can corroborate that description. Is it exactly the primary word I would use. Administration, professor, multiple outdated, confusing websites. ALL UNORGANIZED. It was so bad that after 2 weeks I decided to drop the class. It was pitiful. To add insult to injury; there is a window for a 70% refund, and then a window for a 50% refund. You must go through an advisor to drop a class. On the last day of the 70% withdrawal window, the advisor's office was closed. Every one of them were out of office. It was impossible to drop a class that day. I dropped the class the next Monday when they were back in the office. The registrar denied my 70% refund and arbitrarily made it a 50% refund. I went through the registrar's appeals process, explaining what happened. It was to no avail. They make their own changing rules apparently, with no accountability to anyone. Don't go here. There is SO much better out there....
