This is a wonderful place to shop for your music needs in downtown Stevens Point. I've been shopping here for about 10 years as of writing this.
The owner has been in the business for ~30 years, is extremely knowledgeable about new and old music across most genres, jazz, hip-hop, rock, blues, reggae, rap...the only genre I can't speak for is classical and that's just because it hasn't come up in conversation.
CD's and Vinyl records are primarily what is sold, with new releases sold every week, the shelves are kept current. There is also a balance of what is on the shelves, if you look on the shelves or just ask, there is something here for everyone.
If you come in and a record you're looking for isn't available, ask and they will probably order it for you and it'll be there in about a week (give or take).
The records (when I say records, I am referring to both vinyl products and compact discs) are fairly priced, they are usually (but not always) priced in a way that is comparable to Amazon or Wal-Mart, and are usually still cheaper than going to Shopko, Kmart, or Target, and you will for sure find a greater variety of music at Radio KAOS than at any of the aforementioned (excluding Amazon-but that's not a fair comparison).
It is worth mentioning that they will sell used CD's, but not Vinyl, which I think is fair-it's easy to tell if a CD is scratched, but to sell a used vinyl you really need to listen to the whole thing. If you are the type of person who likes to trade your records and that sort of thing, you really are better off selling it at a garage sail or going to a pawn shop, because this isn't that kind of store. This is the kind of store you go to find a hard to find album that you can't get anywhere else, this is the kind of store you go to to build your music collection and expand the music you listen to.
If you want to have an experience of going into a record store, the vibe, the music, and being around other people who love a wide variety of music, then this is the place to go.
To summarize: Extremely wide variety of music, new releases weekly, if they don't have it, they can order it, great vibe, great atmosphere,...
Read moreIf I was able to rate more than five stars I would. Radio Kaos is one of my favorite businesses in the Stevens Point area. The owner(Randy) is kind, knowledgeable and always willing to help. I am always greeted with a smile and a hello. My 9 year old is always greeted with a smile and usually a KitKat(which was okay-ed by me prior). Randy's customer service is amazing. I have never really interacted with a business owner comparable to Randy, and this I mean in the most positive way. I have been going there consistently for a little over a year now, and I would come in occasionally with my dad when I was much younger. I have never once been disappointed with the service I have received. If anything I am nothing but impressed. Because of going to Radio Kaos my musical taste has expanded a lot, and for that I am so thankful. I love how I can walk in, say hello, wander around and browse for whatever I may be looking for. I love that no one is hovering over me like some big businesses you go to now-a-days. I also love how I have had the opportunity to get to know Randy. I can always ask him what he would recommend if there is a certain artist/band I am curious about. If he is given the chance to get to know his customers too he is able to suggest other artists/bands that you might enjoy. If Radio Kaos does not have something you are looking for you can always ask Randy and he will try to find it and order it. The prices at Radio Kaos are fairly priced as well. Radio Kaos has also helped my 9 year old get into music. There is almost always something playing the background, and if my kid likes it, we end up buying it at some point. It's a respectable business with a respectable owner. I will always recommend this gem to anyone I talk to who is curious about where to buy physical...
Read moreI went in here with my two friends and we were never acknowledged when we walked in. That wasn’t a big deal to us so we started chatting about the records and the bands we liked and the worker was sitting behind the counter and was giving us some serious stink eye and muttering to himself. We went on looking through the vinyls like we normally would, pulling the ones we already looked at forward and leaving the other ones to listing back and then putting them back after we looked through that stack. After about 10 minutes of looking through the vinyls the worker came over and aggressively slammed 2 piles of records that other customers had left leaning forward back and then stormed back behind the counter. We didn’t think much of it until he yelled across the store “hey girls don’t handle the records they bend and break easily!” Then sharply said “I shouldn’t have to be telling you this!” We had been handling them like anyone would and we found it very rude. Up to that point we were interested in buying a few records but I don’t think we will ever be back. I would not recommend this place at all. The atmosphere doesn’t seem welcoming and the worker was very rude to me...
