Had a fine and fun evening until the end. My mom recently had her leg amputated and is therefore in a wheelchair and needing handicap accommodations. The women’s restrooms have no signage on which bathroom stall is a handicapped stall. Even worse, the stalls were various sizes making it unclear to determine which stall was the largest, especially with the attention span of someone with a bursting bladder. Normally handicapped stalls are on the end but this was not the case either, leaving us to guess and unfortunately we guessed wrong.
Silly details but they’re important here—it takes a decent amount of time for my mom to prepare to use the restroom. She has to stand up and swivel away from her wheelchair while using her new prosthetic leg, which requires a great deal of strength and balance. Then she has to remove her pants, sit down, completely remove her prosthetic leg, and finally use the restroom. Then she does it all over again to get back into the wheelchair. Needless to say, it is time consuming for her. After leaving the restroom we were immediately hassled by a staff member to leave the premises. No problem, I understand the event is over….but put two and two as you seen a woman in a wheelchair exiting the bathroom. As we neared the elevator to leave, my mom’s pant leg got stuck in the wheelchair of her wheelchair which I had to remove/fix. We were once again approached by the same staff member and asked to immediately vacate the premises….since we were already leaving I just felt it was unnecessary and inconsiderate to be spoken to in such a way. Most places we have been so far have been very accommodating to my mom and her new lifestyle but sadly I can’t add Gallagher iba arena...
Read moreVisited the first time for an Oklahoma State men's basketball game. Not a bad seat in the house even in the upper levels. The upper seats are at such an angle where it feels like you right on top of the action. Concourses are wide enough to support large crowds and there is ample amount of concessions/restrooms available.
Fan atmosphere was great despite the small crowd. Can only imagine how loud and electric this place would be with a packed house.
Inside the historical arena is Heritage Hall highlighting the history of Oklahoma State athletics. There are memorials to the victims of the 2001 and 2011 plane accidents that affected the men's and women's basketball programs. The men's memorial is southwest corner of the arena by Heritage Hall while the woman's memorial is outside near the northeast corner.
Highly recommend visiting this arena as a college...
Read moreFirst time attending a sporting event at this school and it was a blast! We watched the guys' wrestling team. (I don't understand the sport that much) good vibes, friendly folks, and a good time. Prices for food and drinks are high like any sporting event which just baffles me not everyone can afford to pay high prices when they would like to enjoy college sports. The bathrooms were clean but the water took forever to get to turn on to wash hands.
Make sure you remember where you park! We got a bit lost coming out of a different door. Note the parking is kinda of a joke, they don't have specific parking for events like this. If they do I'm not sure where it's located.
I did notice this school vs OU has a bit of a difference in policy on what you can bring indoors so heads up. This place looked like you could have a purse/bag.
Cannot wait to come back for...
