I was initially very excited to try this restaurant. When I saw that they had Karaage on the menu I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately I wouldn’t call what they served me Karaage. Usually karaage is marinated in soy and ginger to give it a wonderful flavor, but this chicken didnt seem to have been marinated at all, resulting in a chicken experience less flavorful than a McDonald’s chicken nugget. It seemed to just be tempura chicken served with spicy mayo. It was okay as far as being just plain fried chicken, but it came at the ridiculous price of $7 for a few small pieces.
After an extremely disappointing appetizer, we got our sushi rolls. I got the Dynamite roll and my friend got the Tiger roll and the Holiday roll. The Dynamite roll was a bizarre experience, it somehow managed to taste very neutral, like a plain bagel and I could not taste the shrimp or crab at all. The Tiger roll and the Holiday roll both look very different, but when we tried them back to back, they tasted nearly identical. Despite their appealing aesthetic, they tasted just like the rolls you can get at Sprouts for $5. Just very generic and uninteresting. Other restaurants in town, like Boba Fusion Cafe, have made really incredible rolls with similar ingredients. The Tulsa and Okinawa rolls at Boba are much better versions of the Tiger roll, and the Crazy Texan is a more well executed and more interesting version of the Holiday roll (which is ostensibly a spicy roll, but ends up tasting very neutral after the flavors mix as you chew). If you are looking for good sushi at a better or similar price point in Stillwater, you should hit up Boba Fusion Cafe or maybe Nagoya.
We decided to try the Matcha Tiramisu, I was hopeful that maybe it would actually be good! But it wasn’t. It came out almost completely frozen, and I know it is common practice to prepare the deserts even a few days ahead of time, but it seems like they didnt even let a small portion thaw for the night, instead just microwaving it on demand. The result was Tiramisu with slightly warm cake on the bottom, and rock solid cream on top. The cake portion tasted like tres leches i.e. condensed milk. After the cream layer melted a bit so we could try it, it tasted very bitter in a sort of chemical way, in the way that cheap matcha tastes. The cream itself had almost no sweetness which was jarring. I could see an execution of this that could be wonderful! But this is not it.
All in all a pretty disappointing experience. The food is NOT worth the price they charge for it. This whole experience would be fine if the prices weren’t so high, but when you charge high prices then your customers will expect high quality.
There are several other Asian restaurants in town that you will have a more enjoyable experience at. Boba Fusion Cafe has way better sushi, entrees, and deserts. Devoted has incredible authentic ramen. Nagoya has better executions of elaborate rolls. Don’t waste your money here just because it looks nice, its...
Read moreCame by opening night but a few hour wait was not going to happen. Returned Thursday and they estimated 20-30minutes and was about 10 to get a table cleared up for us.
The venue is absolutely beautiful, expansive and unique layout with what looks like comfortable seating and large tops for larger groups. The service team is super friendly and professional, they have been having a busy opening week so expect a wait time but will update upon return visits.
We started with 🦀 Crab Cigars - They we're quite cold and the contents inside didn't seem like it was mixed well. I do enjoy the crab Cigars size compared to other restaurants.
Next came our rolls about 20 minutes before the Ramen bowl. 🌈 Rainbow Roll was bland and something was just off about the rice used. The fish carried it and probably won't be having that roll again.
🍋 Lemon drop roll was fantastic! The unique way to slice up a lemon and place it on top for that flavor was a super idea from the heads. A unique concept I've not seen anywhere in my sushi adventures. Truly delicious and this one is worth a bite.
🍜 Tonkotsu Ramen finally arrived and it was very unique to use a chicken broth which was different but not a deal breaker. Tonkotsu is meant to be a Pork Bone Broth ramen. What really was bad was the meat. It was as tough and wiggly and never going to rip apart with my fork and chopsticks and instead I had to use my teeth to pull back and still have it snap and splash broth. The eggs were also so plain no soy sauce marination, nor were they cooked properly. They were just hard boiled and dropped in. Eggs in a ramen bowl are usually meant to melt away and have a brown coloration from the soy sauce/sake/salt combo they marinate in to provide more flavor. The yolk should be turning to almost liquid. This one was hard as a ball and really bad to taste. The noodles were a bit different and not what you usually expect out of a ramen bowl with no flavor. The corn was very minimal and hiding down below. Overall this Ramen bowl was extremely disappointing, however I aim to return and try some more in hopes that it was just opening week that had them a bit off as a server gal brought crab Cigars to us mid dining later on and we mentioned we already received them long ago.
Overall Miso has just the menu I have been looking for in Stillwater as I take hour drives to Tulsa or OKC just for the right craving or dish. Wishing they can lock it down Ramen wise. They currently don't serve alcohol but a bar area is present, they are awaiting the license. Hoping upon return the Ramen has improved but definitely looking to try more of the unique sushi rolls. Price points were respectable for the amount and quality received. Service was amazing and friendly. A nice place for a date night or evening out for dinner.
Update: I kept returning in hopes of better quality dishes as I kept trying new things. We then tried the Gyoza and Steam buns. Gyoza was so poorly cooked, some deep...
Read moreFor a restaurant in Stillwater, OK, and being I live in OK, there is certainly a level of attempted sophistication, that occasionally borders on what I would describe as "Our Product doesn't stink" said attitude, which then allows them to feel they can dictate terms on what a customer has a valid question about - let me elaborate.
While the food is overall very good, the level of said wanna be sophistication for such an establishment in OK, is a little exaggerated, which at times borders on being a little entitled, as I mentioned, "Our product doesn't stink".. and some rather interesting words from Management.
I had dinner here on a busy Saturday night. We walked in, got an estimated time to seat, no complaints because as people we wait our turn, no issues. What bothered me was given how busy they were, well, certain tables that seat two, well now they are trying to get three of four to said tables. I experienced this personally and saw it happen to others.
Now, Me, my wife and our daughter were squeezed into a corner on a table for two, which now has three. I had zero arm room to even eat, as in order for my wife and daughter to have enough room to move their arms to eat, someone had to sacrifice. Truly, not a huge issue for me as sometimes you have to suck things up. I get it.
What the issue is, is the conversation we had with management. We asked why they felt it necessary to squeeze people as such, ultimately in order to get a greater and continued return of and on revenue, regardless of how it affects the customer space or not. We were told, you will sit here. We had asked to be moved, per my description and we were refused to be moved, for space to eat no less. Okay.... Fine.
Now, when addressing this with Management we were told that well, this is a popular place and our product speaks for itself. This is all the space we have and well, I'm sorry you are having difficulties eating, but this is where it is and that's the choice you have. So, either we sucked it up or basically, we can leave. They did not say this, but given management's reply about its product and capacity, you just had to read between the lines.
Well, we collected our food, paid and left. No drama or scene, simply did what we had to do and went home.
Disappointment - cmon, let's be real here, it's Stillwater, OK. This is and will never be a bourgeoisie establishment. A little less arrogance and a little more concern to and for your patrons, that keep your doors open, this will truly go a LONG way.
I may enjoy the food, but ignorance and arrogance at the level of Management does not bode well. Think a little harder before you basically insult your customer on their...
