I transferred to OSU in spring of 2015, since my very first day at OSU I've had nothing but issues. Students in the animal science department are mean, especially if you aren't a part of their "click" group. Most professor's have their favorites and if you aren't a favorite you get treated differently. Parking sucks for commuters. I commuted over 65 miles every day to earn my degree and I had to get up super early just to get there early enough to get a parking spot. I realize kids who live on campus are more of a priority to cater to because their parents pay extra for them to live there than people like me who pay for their own education and commute to try and make a better life for themselves, but OSU needs to learn that not everyone has mommy and daddy paying for their education and therefore they need to stop taking away commuter parking and be more considerate for non-traditional students. The education I received was good. I did learn valuable information but there are no jobs in Oklahoma for animal science majors. All of the businesses that attended the CASNR career fair were all out-of-state except for maybe 2 or 3. I realize that it is ideal for a student who has no responsibilities to leave the state for a job but when you are in your late 20's and own a house, it's not ideal for me to get up and leave the state for a job that I may or may not enjoy. Scholarships and internships are pointless to even apply for. No matter what other people say, the people running the scholarships are super picky and want a 4.0 GPA student for everything and most of the internship people want someone who already has somewhat of a background in their area. If you do not come from an agricultural background to begin with or did not do any type of cattle production, the opportunities for any type of hands on work or internships don't apply to you. It doesn't matter how hard you work or how well you prove that you're good enough, you will never be good enough in the OSU animal science department. If you have previously judged any type of livestock in high school and/or junior college this university is for you. If not, look elsewhere. This university will tell you anything you wanna hear to get you to go there. The only reason why I went was because they are known for their animal science department and because I had no other choice. It was either OSU or no degree. Take my advice, look at many other universities before making a decision, you are spending 4 or more years at that one institution so make sure it's a good fit for your educational wants and needs along with...
Read moreThe grounds are. The workers are good people. The OSU Police department falsely accuses students of reckless behavior. I was wrongfully arrested placed in 24 days of incarceration within those 24 days I spent $23 hours in a cell with one hour out. Officer Justin Gordon Brianna page and William Paterson created fictitious charges saying I was stealing utility electricity wow inside the McKnight center after hours.
Update: The Police Department promotes Constitutional protection for groups and or corporate activities, yet chooses to practice acts of discrimination against Consitituants of the public. It has been settled beyond controversy, the expression of any/all principles, protections, and immunities the Constitution demands from the Fiduciary Duties and Obligations each and every Public Officers, Officials, including but limited too Employees of all titles. I am American Indian, by the actions of the police department of the campus continues to go against the very dream that Martin Luther King Jr., Frannie Lou Hammer, Malik El Hajj Shabazz a.k.a. Malcolm X, and other Civil Rights Leaders stand and stood for. On Feb 13, I will stand before Appointed Judge Diane Vaughan, former JAG Officer; I am under duress being forced to enter a proceeding where there is no Standing for a suit. The use of the word "State" to create a fictional case proceeding is known as a Shame Legal Process- 21-1533.
A. I pray that through these reviews, the People will learn and correction will commence. /S/Todd Hunter American Indian: Principal...
Read moreI went here for my freshman year and transferred. OSU is beautiful, and I miss Oklahoma, but Missouri State is MUCH cheaper $9,000/year instate, $14,000 out of state. I’ve met A LOT of people who transferred from OSU for the same reasons that I did.
The academics: MSU knows something OSU doesn’t because I’m doing EXCELLENT, when I was at OSU I struggled. The instructors at OSU didn’t seem to care especially in their bio/math department. The instructors in philosophy and political science spent their time trying to force feed democratic values to students instead of teaching. The instructors at MSU are so much better, even the tenured ones. I’m grasping the things I struggled to learn at OSU, the instructors encourage you to ask questions in class, instead of 3 days later with a TA and they actually answer questions with an answer, not a question @Mr. Marley.
The dorms: I stayed in Drummond and it was THE WORST. The showers and sinks were backed up. We lost our “trash can privileges”, they took the trash cans because the staff got tired of emptying them. My door handle fell off my door and I was stuck in my room. The whole place is dirty, the lounge furniture smells bad and you can literally see stuff spilled all over it.
The resources: The tutors there are so busy that you should probably schedule and appointment for homework help before you’be received the assignment. The tutors in the math resource center either don’t really know what they’re doing or they don’t know how to teach what they know. Half of the time you go to the math resources center, one person starts telling you how to solve something and gets stuck, so they get someone else who says something completely different.
The things I liked about OSU were: Stillwater, the food, the football, and the hype. If that’s worth dolling out that much money then it’s the right place for you.
If not, check out Missouri...
