Fun in the Sun — Attraction in Stock Island

Be vary wary of renting a boat/vessel from this company or specifically Shon. While everything seemed good at first we have never had such a poor experience with any other boat rental we have had in the past. First the boat was ok, but a lot of other rental companies have more up to date vessels and seem to be in better condition, but over all not bad. Initial communication was ok, but he was back and forth on price since I found him on an app, he told me he just needs to make a $400 profit from the rental, and when I booked with him directly it ended up over $500... again not the end of the world, the experience was worth it. Shon is very OCD and wants you to do everything his way or he will call you and be condescending and tell you everything you are doing wrong according to him. He made our party so uncomfortable that we ended our boating 3 hours early just to be done with him. He tells you that you are not operating the equipment to their standards and they are concerned with the safety of the equipment and the passengers to try to justify his position. With 4 adults and 3 children at NO time would we ever let their be safety concerns arise for our family. We rented the boat so we could site see and enjoy the views of the keys. This company made this experience cumbersome and a terrible experience. I would NOT recommend putting yourself through an experience with them. update after repeated text messages from this business owner it is astonishing what he believes to be factual after asking me if I was on drugs and numerous other attempted personal attacks. We had 8 people on board who will all confirm that there was never any danger nor any run ashore as this guy has blatantly mis represented and if you read previous review as this guy has a tendency to misrepresent information to suit himself and call it an early day. I would never put my family in danger and for this person to make such irrational remarks should speak volumes on his integrity. Further where we decided to anchor there was no “high tide” or any other potential danger for any of us who got in the water, and text message will show that his input is “the sand is softer” where I put the marker on the google maps. He attempts to defame the character of whomever gives him a bad review for his horrible service and attitude. And again for reference I’ve boated for over 15 years on numerous lakes and the Pacific Ocean. Your outdated vessel and the keys were not that challenging. But yes when you threatened us and coursed us into returning early because you said tides would be dangerous we asked for you to refund us for the 4 hours we did...

Rented the 22FT Sea Chaser flats boat and pricing is fair. However, I believe the company should have cancelled out boat for the day as a 22ft flats boat does not belong in 4ft rollers in the Atlantic. I personally hold a captains license and conduct rescues for a living. Our boat did not belong out in the water that day. However, the renter has limited ability to cancel the day of and not get refunded or risk it anyways. Both Atlantic and Gulf had approximate 4ft seas and a 20mph east wind, to include a small-craft advisor and company still wanted to send people out. GPS did not work on-board so we used Navionics App. Luckily I do this for a living so navigation was easy. Vessel would not plane with 4 on board, equally distributed weight at 4K RPM and began feeling like it was being pulled back despite a clean prop. Returned after about 3 hours of our 8 hours rental due to conditions and equipment. Employee was kind enough to cover gas. Honestly disappointed that it comes down to cancelling without refund or risking it and hoping for the best just to get some moneys worth out of it.

One hour after we returned the small craft was placed into effect. As you confirmed the GPS was not working and we had to use the Navionics app like I stated. Conditions were no better at the time we took the boat out opposed to the time we returned. Your policy clearly states refunds less than a week will not be refunded. So we did try to make the best of it and see if it was any better. You are correct, I did mention the issue when we returned as either way the vessel would have to be brought back as I would not continue to operate a vessel I was having issues with, that would be the responsible thing to do. Immediately turning off an engine while exiting the channel to the Atlantic in those conditions would most definitely place that vessel and everyone on board into a potentially dangerous situation. What is concerning is that you have to take the Atlantic to reach the Gulf, where that vessel did not belong between seas, wind and inclement weather.
