Very nice patch of nature so close to Routes 476 and 320. Crum creek runs through Crum Woods. This area has lots of trails but no trail markers nor any posted maps and only main trail shows up on Google Maps. If you are at Swarthmore College and enter the woods at Fieldhouse Lane and head down to the creek you will see two upright stone slabs that act as an entry to Crumhenge, Swarthmore students hold bonfires and theater productions. Two concentric circles of large rocks with the first hugging the fire pit for close seating around the fire and the other encircles the first. You can take the trail North to Plush Mill Road and if you cross the bridge you can jump on the "yellow" Smedly Trail which takes you on to Smedly Park. Hiking, trail running and mountain biking are popular on...
Read moreWant to enjoy nature? Like to hike? Then crumb woods is the place. I went out to clear my head, decided to go for a walk. The crumb wood is accessed within the Swarthmore College campus. I parked in the back lot (sorry to whoever the faculty member was who lost their spot) entered right across from my spot and started my adventure. The trails there are marked, the college keeps up on them, I wore boots for added traction,, but you could do it with sneakers. The best part of the trails are that some are along Crumb Creek. This led me to several potential fishing spots I plan to hit this spring. All in all it was a good time, the people on the trail were friendly, and found so artwork along the way. Definately worth the trip if you are looking...
Read moreBeen visiting since I was a kid. Love walking around and seeing how the environment changes from season to season. I gave only three stars due to the behavior of visitors. This is the third time in a row I have had to literally run out of the woods due to other people having their dogs off leash. The campus is very welcoming and asks of only two things from visitors 1. No litering 2. Keep dogs on a leash, not only because of safety for visitors and their dogs, but also because the grounds are used by the college/students for research. I wish visitors would respect these rules. Disappointing to see grown adult visitors acting so entitled and...
