I had submitted an order for a custom cake a week ago for pick up. I spoke with a younger dark haired employee about wanting specific details on my cake. She wrote them down on a piece of ordering paper. I was told the total and paid. I also inquired about there being any way to see it beforehand in case I wanted to make any adjustments/changes and was told they could do changes on the spot for me if need be at pickup. My husband went to pickup our order today and the owner acted annoyed when my husband took a picture to send to me for me to see it. He was questioned by the owner and he explained to him what I was told by his employee. The employee was questioned about this by the owner in front of him (very unprofessional and my husband noticed the girl was very nervous as was her demeanor when I originally placed the order) and regretfully said she did not tell us that. I would have gladly paid the difference for the details had it been mentioned when I placed the order. And would have paid it at pick up if the owner was willing to do it on the spot. There is a clear issue between management and employees and as a first time customer, was not satisfied with this experience.
In response to the businesses’ response:
My husband had no choice but to take it as we needed something at that time. I didn’t realize that asking for “pumpkins, leaves, autumn flowers” etc. is a wedding cake according to your standards. My husband saw that you had that paper with all those request in his view. Regret having him not take a pic as proof. Further, once we pay for item, it is no longer anyone’s business what we do with it whether that’s to take a picture or anything else. It is ours. And it was for a special occasion, an anniversary, which should be taken just as important as a wedding or anything else. Also, the taste of the cake itself was not satisfactory. I’m a very flexible/reasonable person when people are upfront and honest. Nobody or nothing is perfect but attitude is everything. Not sure how far your business will go with the attitude you have but wish...
Read moreDiscovered them through Too Good to Go and won't be going back. I got two savory pastries and a pretzel. The pretzel was ok, nothing unusual about it, but the potato -filled pastry was too salty, and the chicken-filled pastry was dry and salty. Based on this sampler, I see no reason to go back to try other items.
P.S. To address the claims made in the owner's reply to the review:
Pastries being 4 hours past their prime does not typically increase their saltiness. If the chicken empanada filling gets dry inside a pastry after 4 hours of being baked, that's something to look into. Attributing the saltiness of the empanada fillings to pretzel consumption timing is so presumptive, I don't even know how to address that. Suffice it to say that the shop owner does not have extrasensory perception as the pretzel and the empanadas were consumed at different times of the evening.
P.P.S. The Too Good To Go order pick up time is 30 minutes before the shop closes. The owner seems to believe that If i came 29 minutes earlier, it would have made all the difference.
When a business owner resorts to concocting unrealistic explanations for salty and dry empanadas instead of addressing the issue, that's not a business that is going to have any more of my hard earned dollars, not at a discount, not at full price. The star rating was updated based on the owner's refusal to take responsibility for the quality of...
Read moreI am a visitor in Swarthmore and I found this gem while searching the web for a good croissant! I showed up at around noon and unfortunately they were out of the classic croissant, so I got a cardamom puff (I think that's what it was called) and chocolate chip scone.
The cardamom puff was out of this world! It has beautiful layers of buttery, crisp bread with crunchy cinnamon sugar on the outside and soft, stretchy dough on the inside. In every bite you get to enjoy the perfect balance of butter, salt, sugar, and cinnamon sugar with a hint of cardamom. The texture is exactly what I was looking for: crisp on the outside, light, fluffy and stretchy inside. The flavors and texture melt together in blissful harmony. The cardamom is noticeable, not overpowering.
I also got a chocolate chip scone which was nothing to write home about. But the cardamom muffin certainly made up for it in its beautiful texture and presentation and unique, surprising flavor profile, so I still give the food a 5/5. I hope that I get to return one day to try the classic croissant and some other...
