David Thompson tends 62(!) raised beds around Tacoma =growing food= to give away at the sharing table in front of my home at the Farm. Also as a WSU Pierce County Master Gardener he teaches & encourages people to garden and take food security in their own hands. His second program is =fruit tree and grape vine gleaning= harvesting fruit trees and grape vines all over Pierce County, saving the fruit from the landfill and giving it to the people. His third program is =food rescue=. He gets produce from food bank suppliers, grocery stores, produce distributors, and farmers when they have too much of an item and it is in danger of spoiling and needs to be distributed quickly. This keeps it out of the landfill producing methane gas and heating up the atmosphere.
He's not a food bank and doesn't require registration or information of any kind. Because the mission is to keep the food out of the landfill he gives it to anyone regardless of income, residency, or legal status. What an inspiration & a blessing he is! Read moreI bought Carolina reaper seeds, dragons breath, and only one each (1 of 10 each species ) germinated. I bought a whole bunch of other super hot pepper seeds from pepper Joe’s website. They all came in less than a week from Pepper Joe’s but urban farmer Took over a month to deliver my seeds. I germinated with heating mats covered domes indoors with a grow light. I’ve been growing plants my whole life so I’m a veteran. Pepper Joe’s Emailed me to ask how everything was going and if I was satisfied with the seeds about a month after I bought them. I let them know that I ordered White devils tongue Seeds and only 1 out of 10 germinated so they sent me a another pack for free (Naga bubblegum, Jay‘s ghost scorpion, Bhut Copenhagen Orange and Tabasco from Pepper Joe’s All had a 80% plus germination rate) After the experience with the 2 companies, I would not order from urban farmer again. I actually Emailed the company three times to say where are my seeds at or I want my money back and one day they finally came. I was not...
Read moreI just want to share that I appreciate the kindness of your heart and soul. The one star review about you being out of food is very rude and sounds like someone just had their undies in a bunch, you can't argue about time frame when Facebook literally tells you when the post was put up. Obviously that person didn't read that part to make sure it was recent. The amount of time and effort you spend to help your community eat is amazing. Although there are some who can't understand that it's an open table others collect from as well, your doing God's work on earth by filling stomachs of those who are hungry. Thank you for being you, even through the negativity you keep getting from...
