Lowry Park, located in the heart of Tampa, is quite a mixed bag when it comes to recreational spots. On one hand, it serves as a great place to connect with nature, offering a breath of fresh air right in the middle of the city hustle. The newly installed boat ramp and kayak launch are notable additions, providing a gateway to aquatic adventures for those who fancy a bit of water sports.
The park's cleanliness is commendable, with spotless restrooms that truly stand out. This attention to hygiene enhances your overall experience and makes family outings a lot more comfortable. Additionally, the paved trails meandering through the park make for a pleasant walk or a breezy bike ride, with picturesque views that make you forget you're in a city.
However, all is not rosy in Lowry Park. The major letdown comes in the form of the two boardwalks that are currently closed due to disrepair. These structures, once a favorite spot for park-goers, now stand neglected and rundown, casting a bit of a shadow on the park's overall charm.
In a nutshell, Lowry Park is a bit of a coin toss. If you're looking for nature, clean facilities, and some water sports, it's a great pick. But if the boardwalks were part of your plan, you might be in for a disappointment. It's a place with great potential, but it could do with a bit more attention to its...
Read moreWe are here several times a year for family gatherings. Located on the Hillsborough River, not too far north of downtown Tampa, & very close to I-275,, this park is ACROSS the street from Lowry Park Zoo. Shelters can be reserved from the City of Tampa for a small fee, but inconveniently NOT online - you have to visit their office on Columbus near Himes. This is the only reason I give this park 4 stars - it's 2015, it should be easier to reserve a shelter!
We've been in many different shelters throughout the park, and all have been a great size for our large family. You can look online to see how big each shelter is, including number of tables & location within the park, which is helpful for reserving a shelter. Except, as I've mentioned, not being able to actually reserve online.
Bathrooms are hit or miss here. The last time we were here, the bathroom by the large playground was fairly clean, but today it was not.
The park has two great playgrounds, plus a boat ramp, and a dock, so there's really something for everyone, right on the Hillsborough River in...
Read moreMy biggest gripe with this park refers to holding events here. each shelters # should be BIG and clearly visible from a distance. Or have signs along the walkway that you can tell what the shelters # is from the walkway. THEY ARE NEITHER. Pretty simple park otherwise. Not much there really. No grills to utilize, I think I only say one play area with slides and stuff for kids.
My other gripe is probably Google maps and not the actual park. But when I first put the address into Google maps it took me to the zoo. Which was a pain, because I hate finding parking. Found a spot, walked up to the zoo, went through security check, only to realize I was at the wrong place. Walk BACK to my car, go to actual venue, then had to walk basically the entire park when the shelter I needed to go to was literally maybe 100yards from where I parked. But I couldn't see any shelter #s without walking right up to the shelter.
Other than that it's an alright park. It is maintained. Grass was...
