West Valley Hobbies — Attraction in Taylorsville

I don't normally complain but I figured I'd make sure people know. I purchased a RC boat from them with some defects. I didn't know till the first run. Normally I wouldn't be suspicious of such an incident, however I had them open up several boats. One of the boats they opened had obviously been used & returned, & they were trying to sell it like new. Today I got my boat in to the water after resolving an esc programming issue & the radio malfunctioned. The boat launched itself accross the lake & into some rocks. The damage isn't bad however it's definitely defective. It makes me wonder if the boat was already returned because of these defects & they were selling it like new hoping they could get away without doing this. I can't say for sure on that. What I can say for sure is they aren't willing to refund the product. They did offer to send it back to the manufacturer & deal with the warranty boot work, but I'm still out a boat for the next 2+ weeks. Sad I can get better & faster customer service from Amazon then this shop. Ultimately my hometown shop would have refunded me & did the warranty work on their own & replaced the product, so I know that their shop could do the same, but since they aren't willing to resolve This issue I'm out a $300 boat till I get ahold of Horizon Hobbies & resolve it myself since I have to leave in a couple of days. Probably best to avoid this place.

I honestly feel bad for leaving this review.

Update. I called again & spoke with the manager & even after I informed him of how my local hobby shop would resolve the problem he said that he wouldn't do it. These guys will leave you with a problem & no solution. There's several other shops in town. Go to...

I went in here to find wheels to fit my cen racing frame,and here's what I found:

Customer service: ⭐ The customer service here was not particularly good or welcoming,for a few reasons. When I asked about the price of the wheels he mentioned "They're $69.00 for a pair" , I stated " that's not bad at all!" Then he says "for a pair!" Very condescendingly, as if I couldn't possibly afford $138.00 worth of wheels. He asked if I had any other RC's and I mentioned that I do, I was trying to pull it up on my phone,and because their was a storm,the reception was terrible,so I couldn't pull it up. He said " If youve seen one Grand Hauler you've seen them all" which I thought was very rude, considering not all are stretched,lowered and customized. Lastly; It began to hail/storm outside so I just waited for my ride in the building. He stood there the whole time as if I was going to steal something,which I found odd (considering I just paid for my HPI wheels and tires).

Selection: As mentioned by others that have reviewed,they have a pretty good selection of random/hard to find RC parts and RTR vehicles.

Location: The location is literally right off of redwood,so it's convenient in that aspect. However,the name threw me off because it's actually in Taylorsville,and not West Valley.

If it wasn't for the mediocre customer service I received at the beginning and end of the exchange,I would recommend them. But because of that ,I would travel 20 miles further just to find better...

Great inventory, lazy old man working the counter. There's no doubt they have some of the best inventory in the state. However, when I went in to find a steering part for my 1/10 scale onroad Traxxas RC car I was met with less than stellar customer service. The grizzled arrogant old man sitting behind the first counter was too busy eating his lunch on the counter to be bothered helping me source the small part I needed, essentially telling me that if I didn't have the car with me or exact make and model he couldn't help. I explained to him the little threaded rod and end piece I needed (fairly universal steering rod thread) but it didn't matter. No matter how well I explained my situation, even telling him I had come all the way up from Orem, he didn't care. I explained to him and the other employees that I could ID the part if they just showed me a few pieces, NOPE. The young workers there defaulted to the old lazy guy and said they couldn't help me. I left without so much of a "thank you" from them for coming in. I will not patron them again and will tell folks to try another shop...
