Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Tempe, University Research Park — Attraction in Tempe

This seems like it's a new hotel. I'm not sure if it is but it looks and feels that way. The breakfast is really great. If you're a diamond rewards member, you get free breakfast from both the buffet and/or the kitchen. It's really nice to start the day with eggs, fresh fruit, pancakes and bacon. It is a hearty enough breakfast to be able to skip lunch if you aren't wanting to buy 3 meals a day. The rooms are very nice and very efficient. The rooms are on the smaller side. They're pretty small rectangles. But they've utilized the space efficiently. For example, the bathroom door is a rolling barn door style. The floor plan utilizes every square inch. So, even though it's a smaller room, it's nice and it has everything you need including a microwave, and a fridge (many Hiltons I've stayed in don't have fridges). Each room has a Keurig coffee machine. I bring my own K-cups because I'm not a huge fan of a lot of Keurig friendly coffees. Its close to the airport but not too far from town. It's not in the middle of the city so it's quiet. It's out in the open. There's not really any spectacular views. It's just Arizona desert. But it's also not in the middle of a city with views of streets and buildings either. They did have an outdoor pool and a nice gym. They had meeting rooms or conference rooms. There was a hot tub. They have a couple restaurants and dining room. The staff was super helpful and it was very clear that their emphasis was on customer service. There was signs everywhere that said if anything was not perfect to let them know and they'd fix it. I only had 3 complaints. First, with the rolling door on the bathroom, it did feel a little like you had less privacy in the bathroom. The second thing was coffee. There's no coffee in the lobby like I'm used to. They have a Keurig machine and they charge you for using it. It was expensive also. It was between $2 & $4, which I think is outrageous for Keurig coffee!! Finally, the parking spaces are extremely narrow. Someone side swiped the wheel wells of our car reversing out of the space. Every space was way too narrow. That's a problem in a rental car when you have to pay for damages. Be sure you park in a place that is more safe. I might personally prefer some of the other Hilton brand hotels better but it was a very nice place and I can't give it less stars for my own personal preferences because it was very nice and I like having a fridge. It just depends on why you're staying there. If it's for business, you can't be disappointed here. If it's a family vacation, I'd book enough rooms to have more space and I'd bring my own coffee. The location is great. There's a Hilton Home 2 on the same property which I might try next time because this time was a vacation. But my husband travels to Phoenix for business and this place is...

Being a Hilton member, I was disappointed with my stay here. It would take me alot to even want to book a stay here at this specific location.

Don't get me wrong, this hotel is quite nice. There is a gym, outdoor swimming pool/fireplace, and a bar. For a nice hotel, you would think the service would be by far from poor service, but it's not.

First day getting checked in, I wasn't offered a complimentary water considering I was a Hilton member, but that's okay. Usually all Hilton associated Hotels tell you about breakfast, how to get connected to the wifi, and so forth (services they offer); this location didn't bother to tell me anything. I felt more rushed to just go to my room and stop bothering the receptionist even though I was just only arriving to check in.

My first night there, I notice the lack of housekeeping. There was no trash bag in the trash bin. I had to ask the receptionist for some the next day, but I used a grocery bag as a trash bag that 1st night. I noticed there was stain on the bed sheet and I am glad I took a photo of it. The day before my check out, they did housekeeping and on the same bed... that stain look identical to the stain that was there from my 1st night. This clearly tells me that they don't change out the bed sheet at all. I started to question and feel very insecure whether that same bed sheet had ever been changed out and if it been used by the previous individual that may have booked the room before I did. I felt so disgusted and insecure. Those two pictures I took of the stain on the bed sheet were both different days, same stain location, and they look very identical.

Aside from that, housekeeping should try to clean the vent in the bathroom. It was dirty. I know some people don't pay attention to that and I have no clue why I had did on my first night, but it kind of bothered me a little at how dirty it was.

I hope this location gets better, but I don't plan on booking my stay here anytime soon after seeing the same bed sheet used with their "so called housekeeping service". It was awful and quite disappointing.

Last note of all, thank you to the two employees that did apologize to me on my disappointment of my stay there. I appreciate the thought of apology and I wouldn't mind giving this location another chance, just not in a few...

I stayed at this property over the weekend for my daughter’s sports competition, and unfortunately, the experience fell well short of expectations, especially considering I spent nearly $500 for a two-night stay. I had requested a room with a sofa bed or trundle, but that request wasn’t honored. The mini fridge was enclosed in a cabinet with no ventilation, which seemed like a safety concern. One of the glass shower doors was stuck, the WiFi wouldn’t connect using my last name and room number, and both nights there were no liners in either of the trash cans, not even in the bathroom. It’s the small details that make a difference, and they were consistently overlooked.

My daughter and her friend checked out the pool and immediately came back saying it was dirty, so they didn’t even bother using it. At check-in, the front desk staff explained the breakfast hours but never mentioned that a food voucher was required. Most hotels, especially at this price point, include breakfast by default. The bar area looked cozy and the breakfast options seemed decent, but without a voucher, I didn’t get to try anything.

And I say this confidently: I know for a fact that an entire week in Vegas would’ve been more beneficial and more affordable than two nights at this rinky-dink, poorly located hotel. That’s saying something.

To top it all off, the parking situation was frustrating. They charge $10 per night for an extremely tight lot with limited spaces. I had to circle for nearly 10 minutes both nights just to find parking, and there’s no overflow lot, no valet, and no nearby alternative, just a wide open field across the street. It felt like yet another charge added on without providing real convenience or value.

The staff was friendly and professional, and I do appreciate that, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the series of disappointments. Between the miscommunication, lack of basic amenities, and the steep cost, this stay felt completely underwhelming. We will not be returning. I should’ve gone to Marriott....
