Excellent Kung-fu school! I have trained at several other schools over the years, and this has been the best overall instruction I have received. I have been a student for a year now. The sifus are the most talented I have trained with, and are always kind and compassionate. I enjoy the emphasis on chi, forms, and drills. They teach self-defense also, but the concentration is not so much on combat (at least compared to other schools). They really make sure you have learned a form well, and their teaching has more substance than just teaching the memorizing of movements. I also really enjoy the Chan meditation as part of the Chi-gong classes. We have a wide range of students in terms of age and experience, and they adapt their instruction to the students needs. The classes had a wonderful diversity of ages, skill levels, and practitioners from different backgrounds. Master Shu Yan Xu gave instruction simultaneously in English and Chinese. It not only felt accommodating but what was shared helped deepen the cultural context of the art. It felt authentic and inviting.

I appreciate the format of the classes where there was a wider collective portion and also breakout groups for different skill levels. Sometimes a more trained youngster in class could be modeling moves for clumsier adults. Which seems like a great peer-to-peer learning opportunity - reinforcing what we are learning, supporting each other, developing confidence and leadership. Every movement felt keenly observed by our expert teacher.

This Kung Fu studio really pushes you hard, and you come out with noticeable improvements to your flexibility, strength, and coordination. It goes beyond simple self-defense as well, adding aspects of meditation and mental focus. This is the closest thing to stereotypical Kung Fu as you can get for yourself. I'm an average dude, but the Kung Fu and Qi Gong classes have really improved my stamina, coordination, and explosiveness, which has translated to other sports I enjoy playing. I also have my sons enrolled, and my eldest (age 9) is on the verge of doing a backflip. I've seen other kids doing amazing things, from aerials to using a three sectional staff.
