The venue has potential but has some major issues they need to address before we, and any of the people that were with us, will ever return. 1 -Smoking is allowed anywhere is the venue. If you have asthma or are allergic to cigarette smoke like several in our group are, there is nowhere to get away from the smoke no matter how hard you try. We have been to many concerts at outdoor venues all over the country and go to at least 20+ concerts/live music/music festivals a year and this venue is the only one we have been to where this was an issue in the last 5-6 years. Usually venues have a smoking area or don't allow smoking in the seating area. The Mills allowed it everywhere and it was so incredibly smoky all night long. They really need to designate a section that is smoke free or better yet, only allow smoking outside the actual concert seating area like the majority of venues have done for several years now.
#2. You need some sort of lighting in the back section of the seating area along the path. It is pitch black and someone is going to get hurt. The only lighting is from the stage and over by the parking lot. There is zero lighting by the bathrooms and the main path is right there also so no one can see anything. We witnessed a man with a cane and an elderly woman with a walker who both had to ask those with them for help as they could not see where they were going at all. Even we couldn't see the path at the back of the venue. The poor gentleman with the cane tripped on the edge because he couldn't see it and almost went down. It will only take one person getting hurt because of the lack of safe walking path and they will sue the venue.
#3. We tried to order 2 different ones of the specialty drinks (Papaw and the Mamaw). There were 4 people playing tonight at the concert. 3 openers and then Gary Allan. and we were only 1 song in with the 2nd person and were told they were out of both drinks already. The first singer only sang a few songs. How is the venue already out of 2 of only 4 or 5 specialty drinks? One was lemon shake up mixed with vodka.... and the non alcoholic lemon shake up stand a couple registers over sold freshly made lemon shake ups all night. Not sure if they were just out of the bigger cups (assuming since the 2 drinks had different ingredients) or what. Poor planning/stocking, etc. to run out so extremely early...
#4. There was no rhyme or reason when exiting the parking lot. No signs, no one directing people out, no pathway to exit closest to the main outside road as people were parked in it so you had to turn around and go to the far opposite path that you couldn't see or even know it exists. It was a huge cluster and people were trying to turn around since they couldn't get out the other direction. Zero signage or light help to see where to exit.
The good: Plenty of places to sit and the drink prices were lower than most other venues we have been to. $7 beers, $2 waters and $10 mixed drinks (in decent sized cups) were a nice surprise. Huge lemon shake up for $6. Well done.
As the first visit for everyone in our group, all of which are seasoned concergoers, we were all extremely disappointed and it was definitely not a good impression at all unfortunately. We had high hopes for another venue that is close to Indianapolis. It could be a really great venue for people to hear live music but definitely needs to work on making things more user friendly and more in line with other venues' smoking policies in 2023. Laws were changed over 10 yrs ago in our state and most other states. For being a new-ish venue, your policy felt like a step back in time. Definitely make sure to have an area to accommodate the smokers, but also make sure the venue is able to be enjoyed and attended by non-smokers also who are being affect by the large amounts of 2nd hand smoke. You are definitely...
Read moreVenue Rating Only This was the venue where we took our son (14 yo) to his first concert. He was eagerly anticipating to see his favorite band, Queensryche at this venue. Other venues were 21+ where they were touring, so we secured "VIPPIT" access for his birthday, which in reality was just pit access with a wristband that later was found to not be strictly enforced. We traveled 2 hours and arrived when the gates opened at 5 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show to get a great spot and did, but the event was understandably delayed and evacuated due to a storm for just over an hour. However, the re-entry process was chaotic and disorganized, and although we expected to lose our prime spot, we found many many MANY more in the PIT section.
The experience then had continuous delays, with the public announcer frequently coming out with a bullhorn to provide inaccurate time updates and vague explanations. Hearing "we’ll have an answer in about 15 minutes" repeatedly only added to the frustration and crowd agitation, especially as the PA asked the crowd to applaud the stage crew, (who appeared to be huddled each time), and to be ready for a show that will “melt our faces off”. All the while, not relaying anything around what would be missing to come. The ‘“just the middle man” isn’t a thing when nothing had been stated.
The concert didn’t start until nearly 10 p.m., and the atmosphere was disappointing, with removed monitors and speakers, a wet stage, and no lighting or stage effects—just spot and floodlights, which gave the whole experience the feel of a Walmart parking lot. Slaughter opened with poor audio, plagued by excessive bass and treble along with microphone issues. Thankfully, the sound for Great White and Queensryche was much better! The bands were able to continue with what they had been dealt also. The concert ended at 1AM, and while not stated it was confirmed band did I fact cut their sets too.
All said, Im for the mantra that the show must go on, and for rocking out. However, there's no do-over for a 14-year-old's first concert experience, and unfortunately, this one fell far short of what it should have been, where this venue’s unpreparedness and improper...
