My boyfriend and I have been here before, and I was optimistic about going again. We are avid sushi, Japanese, Thai food lovers. However our visit tonight was less than what we wanted (don’t worry, we still tip!). We ordered the shrimp shumai dumplings and salmon sashimi for appetizers. Both really great!!! For our dinner, he ordered Chicken Katsu, and I ordered Shrimp Pad Thai. His dinner looked, smelled, and tested great, although he said the chicken was pretty bland (even with the sauce provided). However, my Pad Thai immediately made my stomach turn when it got to the table. It smelled like pet food, and tasted that way as well. It was served with a lime, so you better bet I used as much lime as possible, but the dog food smell/taste was POTENT. My shrimp was also extremely overdone. As I mentioned, I’m not shy about eating Thai and other Asian foods, so I know tastes can vary depending on the restaurant/chef. I have also enjoyed Pad Thai many times from other restaurants. So this was a bit disappointing...
We still plan to return for other items, but it was clear by the quality of our dishes, and by what others were ordering, that their main focus is probably their...
Read moreGot a sushi craving?! Go here! This place was excellent all around! Before you get started, I know the menu has a lot to choose from, and everything on it looks so yummy, and you want it all, lol! The staff are patient and will also offer their suggestions. Service was fast, friendly, on top of refills, and removing finished plates. The fried pork Gyoza is delicious, fried perfectly golden brown. We had to order more! Chicken fried rice was awesome. Tender chicken, perfection! (Add Yum Yum sauce) We ordered the Volcano Roll and Oak Roll. Both are delicious. The grilled salmon on the volcano roll was in between slightly grilled and part raw, I don't know if they meant to do that, but some pieces tasted like rubber, but overall good. I preferred the fried roll, definitely a favorite. Miso soup was calling our names in this cold weather. To me, it was watered down. Served in a chilled bowl, which I thought was odd. The seating area is comfortable, and the atmosphere is nice and calm. The bathrooms are clean, and the sink style caught my eye. Awesome place for a quick bite or lounge around, and...
Read moreZeng Sushi is a nice, little Asian cuisine option in the Terre Haute area and I think it's very much worth trying.
We went to Zeng recently, arrived somewhat late (10pm), but the staff was extremely accommodating and also very friendly and professional. I have no complaints about the decor as long as the restaurant is clean and the food and service are of expected standards. I found that to be very much the case with Zeng.
The three of us ordered hibachi and the chef was absolutely polite and expeditious. The food arrived within 20 minutes of ordering and was just as good as a local, well-known and more expensive hibachi option. The salad and miso soup were great as well. The chef prepared the best japonica rice I've ever had. Perfectly cooked. My compliments to him.
We didn't order any sushi, but we plan to go back soon and I will amend my review at that time. But it looked very good.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to any fan of...
