The volunteer who led us through the museum (I believe her name was Ruth) was knowledgeable and kind. She made everyone feel welcome and shared many facts with the kids and adults. Our group also enjoyed the model train setup and the men who ran it. They seemed genuinely happy to share their models with the children. Unfortunately, the two ladies working the front desk spoke rather harshly to several people in our group, which was unpleasant and made a few of the children uncomfortable. The overall experience was good, but aside from the volunteers, the staff wasn't very welcoming. I'm sure they are used to large school groups being loud and maybe unruly, but our homeschool group was small, well-behaved, and undeserving of the sharp tone and pushiness...
Read moreFor a small town like Texas City, you'll be surprised how awesome and extensive this museum actually is until you visit it. This town still remains to be the location of the worst industrial accident in the USA to date, from 1947, when two ships at the small port blew up . There's a lot if history in this rich little town starting with artifacts from the civil war, and was the location of the first air force squadron in Texas! And to my knowledge this city still has the longest man made fishing pier in the world called the dike. Go and see for yourself. My 5 year old nephew & I had a ball exploring all the details from Superman flying up above to an alien spaceship landing . There are buttons to press which makes for a fun interactive and engaging display . We then explored the rest of the museum which also featured another area that kids can play with legos and magnets . We learned a lot of Texas City too that we didn’t know before our visit .
