The Stansbury Park Observatory Complex (SPOC) is owned and operated by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society (SLAS). SLAS holds star parties here every other Saturday through the viewing season, plus special events throughout the year. Everyone who helps run and maintain this facility is a volunteer, and it is truly astounding what they have accomplished.
Inside the observatory are three large telescopes, including the largest telescope in Utah that allows regular public access. There is also a fourth large telescope that is wheeled out during events. Finally, volunteers bring their own scopes out as well. On a good night, you might find 30+ telescopes to look through.
Tips: Arrive early and be prepared to stay late (very late). Keep all white light (including cell phones) OFF! Prepare for outdoor conditions by dressing for the cold, planning for mosquitos, etc. There are limited facilities available, plan ahead. Bring the kids.
The site is wheelchair accessible. There is a telescope available designed to be used by those in wheelchairs. If this is important to you, contact SLAS before going to be sure it...
Read moreI love this Stansbury park area. I went here with my teenage son and my mini Dachsund dog to go fishing. Great atmosphere here, everyone is just so pleasant. Grass is green and thick, there's a lot of parking space, there's a lot of sunshine and shade. You can fish in Millpond for Carp and Bluegill and walk across the wooden bridge to Stansbury lake and fish for Catfish, Large mouth bass or go swimming in the clean pool. Very beautiful place. Has a swimming pool, 2 fishing lakes, some vendors for iced beverages and great wild life. Geese, muskrats, bull frogs, fish, Large variety of birds, ducks and great times. Highly recommend for fishing...

They have three big telescopes that you can use when they have viewing nights. That park is a five but the skatepark is about a 3 out...
