I tend to stay away from negative reviews but in this situation I can't let this slide. It was recommended we go through the ER due to being late at night and the nature of the situation.
Me and my sisters took a family member to the hospital on July 7th around 9pm due to a mental health scare. After having to wait almost two hours to be seen, they proceeded to do blood work, but it was made clear that since the patient's insurance was with another hospital, it would be better if we went there. Majority of the staff was friendly, however there was a social worker who didn't show any compassion and was discussing matters that the patient shouldn't have heard as it could be triggering giving the situation.
The social worker is quoted saying "I am here to educate you on the process and we are wasting our time in the urgent care and the place she recommended is going to be expensive." She also made it known that "we don't treat folks with these (mental health) conditions here."
Instead of taking care of the patient like they are obligated to do, they opted to pass the patient onto another hospital (UCLA Harbor City). Not given the correct information, we took our family member to UCLA Harbor City. It is now almost 2am on Friday, July 8th. We had to wait another almost 2 hours to be seen by a doctor and be admitted. It is at this point we were made aware that Torrance Memorial could have assisted us and not make the situation even worse.
The doctor at UCLA Harbor City mentioned the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor ActĀ (EMTALA), which requires all hospitals to treat and stabilize a patient regardless of health insurance or ability to pay.
It's safe to say I will be avoiding any and all medical treatment from Torrance Medical. I am usually forgiving but this situation and treatment is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGoogle took me to the wrong entrance and had to drive all around to find parking which was on the opposite end of campus, only to find out that there was a parking structure across from the ED. 𤯠Came in with a painful eye bag. Intake/triage was immediate and then waited for about 10 minutes. A nurse came and got everyone who was waiting and placed us in the ED Annex beds. I then waited for maybe 20 minutes, after talking to ER Nurse, for the doc. She did her exam and she explained her assessment, potential diagnosis and treatment. She obviously knew her craft. Another nurse came in 10-15 minutes later with my antibiotic š, notes š, and some water. She said another nurse would come by to take my insurance info. After about 10-15 more minutes the same nurse came to check on me and determine if the outtake nurse had come so she went and got her. By then, CVS had texted me that my prescription was ready for pickup! A short time later the outtake nurse came to get my info and I was discharged. I may have been there for an hour and a half or so.
Thankfully the parking is free! I got some steps knocked out coming and going. Overall, I'm satisfied.
Someone else in a bed next to mine had came in because their 2-year old had fallen down the stairs an hour and a half prior but seemed just fine, although he'd bitten his tongue a little bit. CT scan was not advised but Mom wanted to make sure. I thought, this will take forever. They went to CT, came back, waited for radiologist, got the all clear, gave their insurance info, and were out before I was. That's excellent service in my opinion and experience. I've spent hours in EDs with my kids at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAWFUL, should have gone to LCOM (on my insurance) but this hospital was closer and on my BF's insurance. I thought he was having a stroke, went up to ER window and the intake woman (Lucy) was so rude and cocky, she shouldn't be working with people, zero personality, put her in the back to file. I calmly explained what happened and I was NOT long-winded at all and she cuts me off and interrupts and says "why are you here?". I said I'm trying to explain what happened. I explained exactly where the pain was and then she asked me "where is the pain?". Everything was repetitive and I'm thinking, does this woman even speak English?? Then she asks for my BF's driver's license (with his new address) but had an old address on file. We only caught it when we were about to leave window. Why ask for Driver's License if you aren't going to check info and update your files? The ER intake male nurse was unfriendly and weird too. Told us never to google symptoms, they are usually "wrong". The symptoms we googled were not wrong at all. Stupid people, this was about saving a life. Also, every hospital I've been to has their ER beds/rooms close to waiting room, but theirs was across the building and was difficult for my BF to walk all that way, so I got him a wheelchair. To top things off, I politely asked 3 different people for water in different areas of the ER, I didn't expect them to pay for and hand me bottled water, just a water fountain! They said sorry, go to the cafeteria and buy water. Are you kidding me??? I cannot STAND this...
