Pros: *Clean, Well lit. Cons: *Overpriced items. Not comparable to other shops or online stores. Consistently higher prices. No discounts as a repeat customer. *Not kid friendly: Do not go there with kids. Contrary to what they say about being kid friendly, they don’t want kids in the shop. The big guy tells kids to stand back, don’t touch the comic book, don’t go near a shelf, etc. I put back the comics I was going to purchase and left because he made my kids (and therefore me) feel unwelcome. It turned the browsing experience too tense. All because my kids may ruin the “mint condition” if they look at a comic. It was also the goofy kids comic books that my kids wanted to look at (not some golden age comic in pristine form). And my kids simply opened the book to look at the interior. *Also, I missed out on an important issue of a comic book series that they were supposed to reserve for me. Now it’s sold out everywhere and is expensive. When I asked about it they said it’s in the back and I should come back later. I went back a week later and they didn’t have it. They were supposed to email or call me and never did. In summary, it’s an okay shop, but I’ve enough bad experiences that I would take my business elsewhere—especially at the higher cost it’s not worth it. ——-UPDATE (In response to your reply): I find you to be even more insincere because you would still rather blame my kids than your behavior. As I mentioned, my kids looked at the kids comics, and as a collector I have taught my kids to handle comics, so there was no reason for you to harass them each time we came to your store. They simply opened a kids comic to look at it. There were not “too many things dropped or not carefully handled” (as you say). Yes, I have taught them the fragility of comic books. Contrary to what you claim, you have told them to stand away from shelves and other nonsense because you are afraid they would touch the comics, not because you are directing them away from mature comics. You’ve done that even when I’m standing with my kids and they are looking at (not touching) kids comics. As for me, I always asked your permission to look at back issues from bins which I opened at the counter to inspect, right in front of you. So my kids and I have been careful and respectful to you. You should have returned the courtesy. In response to the comic you did not hold for me (although it was reserved for me), again you are insincere. I arrived at the time the comic came out so I was not late in any way. Your store never contacted me although you had my email and phone number. But I came in at release date week to pick it up and the other person told me it was in the back and they would have to search for it. I was told to come back. I did. Then you were there telling me it’s not in the front and nothing goes to back and that I was wrong. Now, seriously, how am I supposed to know whether you guys hold reserved comics in the back or front? I don’t make the rules. I followed your rules and came in to get my comic. But no apologies, no taking responsibility on your part. You simply say I’m wrong and too bad. You say that you don’t know what I’m talking about as far as the missing comic, but that’s exactly my point. It was your responsibility to know if it was up front or back, and it was it your responsibility to contact me to come in. Either way, I did my duty and came in release week and I got the runaround from you guys. You do not consider that maybe YOU made a mistake. Finally, aw yeah you are definitely overpriced but I shopped at your store to give business to a brick and mortar store. Why...
Read moreI've shopped and worked at some pretty incredible comic book stores in my life, and Aw Yeah has to be one of the best. Marc and staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and more importantly are so kind to my kids, that my 5 year old insisted on making an art project for them (she gets super excited to see it hanging in the store now). There is such an incredible inventory of back issues which is meticulously alphabetized, it makes filling in gaps in a collection a breeze. The live sales, signings, and back issue sales also make this a must visit store for comic fans in Westchester...
