I took my dog for an early morning walk in late December, and we did not encounter another person during our entire 2.9 mile loop. I imagine that this park gets very busy in the spring, summer and fall. This is a very nice park, with a nicely paved trail network (icy in winter) and lots of memorial benches and trees along the route. All of the trees are protected against damage from the deer that appear to be quite plentiful.
The loop we took starts near the tennis courts at the N Forest Road parking lot. During a busy season, it looks like there is a much larger parking area near a skate park, with an alternate entry to the trail network. The park has a combination of floodplain natural areas and nicely planted landscape areas, such as the Amherst Memorial Hill Grove. The trail also skirts around a large solar farm and the transmission tower for WBFO-FM, a nice complement of natural areas with commercial usages.
This park (and its accompanying flood control structures) was apparently created after disastrous flooding in 1985. One concern of mine was the frequent signage reading "Stay safe. Walk with a friend." I wondered if this signage was the result of crime along the trails or if it was simply...

The sign tells you to stay to the right and pass on the left, yet the cyclists where yelling at my kids to move off the trail completely, even though they where basically walking on the grass. I'm not going to walk on the grass when the trail is big enough for everyone. The people walking and running where great, friendly, smiling. But the cyclists where rude, loud, ignorant and riding away to fast for it to be safe. This one lady crashed her bike and fell off because she going to fast around a bend. My family had to walk in a straight line as far right as possible almost...
Read moreA great place to workout in the buffalo area while enjoying the beauty of Mother Nature. The trail is perfect for biking, walking, and even rollerblading. The changes in elevation are slight, but enough to add to the challenge. The trail is faulty lengthy, maybe 6 miles? I ended up picking up another trail that lead to the Erie Canal and up to Lockport. I went in July of 2021 - perfect at 7am.
There are several bathroom throughout the trail. There’s tennis courts so bring a racquet! There’s also a golf course. Plenty of...
