My daughter made reservations at this restaurant for her graduation dinner. We were the last appointment for the day and although we were a little late, they were very accommodating which we appreciated. We sat down to order and I asked our server for recommendations. She said the chicken and the salmon are her favorites so I chose the chicken. When the food arrived everything looked delicious except the chicken. I have never seen cooked chicken looking so white and unappealing. I decided that I did not want the food but I was still going to pay for it. It was my daughter's day and I was going to go with the flow. I returned the food untouched, but informed our server that I would still pay for the meal. Soon after, the manager came to the table to inquire why I did not want the food. I informed him that I eat with my eyes and the food did not look appealing. I reiterated that it is not a problem, I will still pay for the meal. He asked if I would like something else and I informed him that I am aware that we got the latest appointment and I did not want to inconvenience anyone. He insisted and I relented and accepted the salmon as I figured that would be easy to prepare. To my surprise, that's when the manager got nasty. Initially, he was standing beside me and speaking so that only my table could hear. As soon as I accepted the salmon, he proceeded to walk around to the opposite side of the table loudly chastising me for not accepting the chicken that was specially prepared for me. He also informed me that in his 12 years of managing the restaurant, no one has ever refused a meal before tasting it. It makes no sense that the manager chose to make an issue, when it was made clear by the customer, that there was none. Again, I told him that it is not a problem, I will pay for my food. Everyone at my table was aghast. At this point my daughter started crying from embarrassment; saying I was livid, is an understatement. My daughter's friend graduated a year before her and had his graduation dinner at this restaurant. She liked the restaurant and decided that she wanted to eat here for her graduation. One year of anticipation culminating in disappointment. Needless to say, we will never return. Giving credit where credit is due, the servers were pleasant and attentive. One kept congratulating my daughter and making small talks. I left a 20% gratuity for them which the manager did not accept. Everyone at my table said that the food wasn't bad but they lost their appetites. We wanted to make this day special, my daughter worked really hard and deserve to be celebrated. It is extremely unfortunate that the manager's ego could not stand someone not wanting to try the specially...
Read more800 Maple is a beautiful looking upscale restaurant, that falls a bit short of it's class. I say this because, I expect more from a upscale restaurant. When you look past the beautiful decor, you have to judge a place by their food/drinks. After carefully looking over the menu, my wife and I found it to be lackluster. My wife ended up getting the asparagus salad, and I ordered the roasted chicken. Initially, we did not place an order for a appetizer. But our waiter suggested that we should, just to help pass the time. Because the roasted chicken could take up to 30mins to prepare, so we ordered the truffle fries. While waiting for our food to arrive, our drinks was ready and was brought to us. Tai ordered the Cosmo, and I ordered the Manhattan. We were both disappointed by our drinks, because they both tasted watered down. By now our fries showed up, and the first thing we notice is the fries are lukewarm. We are starting to wonder, if these fries was just sitting under a heat lamp. The main entree's arrive, after about 20-25 mins wait time. I had no problem with that, I felt that was reasonable. Tai like her salad, but grew tired of it after several bites. I had tried some of her salad, and understood why she felt the way she did. You get a strong taste of boiled eggs in the salad, so if your not into boiled eggs. This may not be a salad you would want to try, or just omit the egg when ordering. My roasted chicken was huge, and the skin was nice and crispy. What I didn't care for, was the cognac peppercorn sauce. To me it tasted more like a foie gras sauce, than a peppercorn sauce. My final thoughts of this place would be this, the food is not on a upscale restaurant level. There is nothing exciting, bold or daring about the dishes. I feel this is a neighborhood favorite, that is better than Carrabba's, Scotch and sirloin, and Red lobster. But does not compare, to the upscale restaurants in the downtown...
Read moreGreat experience this evening at 800 Maple. We were welcome by the host right when we arrived and we're seated at a comfortable table. The cocktails we got were phenomenal and we ended up ordering about six drinks total between the two of us. One of the drinks was a pear flavored martini And the other was a Sicilian mule. We ordered the crispy artichoke hearts and the calamari for appetizers. The calamari was one of the softest calamari I have ordered at a restaurant. The artichark hearts were different than anything I have had but I really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the pork chop which was cooked very well and I ordered the prime strip steak which was very flavorful and cooked properly. We did order the homemade macaroni and cheese. You can also get a version of this that is lobster macaroni and cheese. You definitely can taste that it is homemade and that there are many different cheeses used in this dish. It was very rich but my husband was head over heels for it. The best part of our experience was the dessert. It was a homemade tart with peaches and blueberries with vanilla ice cream on top. It was served warm and You could really taste that homemade flavor. It was kind of like peach cobbler but a hundred times better. I would highly recommend that as a dessert if you visit the establishment. I really would love to come back to this restaurant to try a couple more of their dishes and would highly recommend this restaurant to my close...
