I got into HMD from a friend who recommended it as a way of losing weight; At first, everything went well as I had no issue with any of the meals or service. However, after my 3rd or 4th week of reordering, I encountered an issue with one of my meals. . and this is where the nightmare began. As i was enjoying my meal, I realized there was a small insect inside my food, at first glance I thought it was a pepper, or some sort of seasoning but after turning my my phone flashlight on and examining it, It turned out to be a dead mosquito. Now, as a paying customer and somebody who is putting their faith and trust into a company to cook their food for you, you definitely don't expect to see something like this. Unfortunately as disheartening as this was to see this, this was only the beginning. As I took a picture and reached out to the company, I was forwarded to speak to their owner. The owner from the start was the most rude, stubborn and disrespectful person I've ever came across. He goes on to tell me that this "issue" that I had was not a big deal and that occasionally may happen from time to time. He explains that the best he can do is refund me for the meal that was contaminated. I go on to tell him that this has nothing to do with money, and that I just wanted to be aware of how this occurred, and what will be in place for this to not happen again. Keep in mind, I was very concerned because I just had recently directed multiple coworkers of mine to the company and wanted to be assured they don't have a similar experience. The owner, ignores every attempt of me trying to speak, and continues to bash me and tells me to get over it. He becomes extremely angry and frustrated and explains he doesn't have the time to check every meal and keeps insinuating how busy their kitchen can be. Now, I don't ever want to speak bad of a company, but how can you let your food get contaminated with a dead insect, than not show any remorse or support to your customer. At every attempt of speaking sense into the owner, he would overpower me and try to intimidate me. The owner goes on to say this is an attempt at extortion, and threatens to call the police. Anyways, after this whole debacle, I was simply at a loss of words. Now, I have never seen this company's operation behind closed doors nor do I know how they deal with their food.. but if it's half of how they treat their customers .. than I would strongly advise you to stay away from their meals. I went from a loyal customer paying hundreds of dollars a week to being ridiculed, humiliated and embarrassed to how I ever let myself let this company...
Read moreMy complaint is not with the food. Most of the items are quite tasty. My issue is with the delivery. Their drivers are supposed to text you the night before with a delivery time, which rarely happens. Most of the time I have to email/call on the day of delivery to find out my scheduled time. Kim at Customer Care is good about following up with the driver but then sometimes the driver will text, 'Your Sunday delivery is between 7am and 3pm'. How ridiculous to have an 8-hour delivery window. This means you have to stay home all day. If you have plans, especially in the summer, your food will sit outside during 95-degree temperatures just baking in the sun. They say the food stays frozen for 6 hours but I can assure you, under those conditions, that is NOT the case. So, once again, last night the driver never texted me. I woke up at 5:30 this morning in case the food arrived early. It didn't. I sent two emails to inquire about my delivery time. By 2:55 I still hadn't received a response so I called Customer Care. I was told that the driver had been instructed to text me after the office received my earlier emails. I never received a text. Customer Care had to contact the driver again. I was told that my food would be delivered between 3:30 & 5:00. It finally arrived at 5:35. So this is to you Mike, the owner....I trust you can sort out this problem. It happens almost every week. You have a great thing going here, but I'm sure you'll admit that this is not good business. Please get to the bottom of this issue and let your workers know how important communication and customer service is when doing business. I would be glad to update my review to 5 stars if this problem is rectified. Thanks in advance.
This is an update to my original review 3 months ago. I had given 3 stars solely due to the delivery problems. I’m happy to say that I can now give HMD 5 stars! In recent weeks HMD dramatically improved their delivery system. They now alert you on Thursdays of the time you can expect your Sunday delivery. Thanks for listening to your...
Read moreI discovered healthy meals direct on a whim as they opened a location near me and I’ve been on a health journey for the last two years and dying for more options local. I was super excited about the grab and go as I work a hectic schedule and never have time to meal prep. I’m a bariatric patient so I love having the calories set out for me. Over the last two years I’ve lost 180lbs and this gives me a great guide to help stay on track with my diet and maintain my weight. My reasoning for 4 stars falls only due to buying a couple grab and go frozen overnight oats. Upon returning home, I noted a couple, especially the peanutbutter and jelly already had freezer burn. Not sure if it’s a packing issues, or what happened as it wasn’t past the best by date. I didn’t get the chance to call them or go in and give them it to try and return due to a busy schedule so I just defrosted it and ate it anyway, taste was only slightly effected so it wasn’t the biggest deal considering they were BOGO anyway. Overall this place has been a shinning light for me and my health journey so far, I even got my boyfriend to stop in and pick some up for work every day! Thankyou HMD for making it so easy to make the right...
