The Lucille Ball Memorial Park is located on Lake Chautauqua near Lucille Ball’s Hometown of Jamestown, New York. The Park seems to be a popular place with the locals as there were several people walking and enjoying other park activities. The park is also a popular tourist destination as there are two statues of Lucille Ball standing in the park. The First statue was erected in 2009 and really bears little resemblance to Lucy. In Fact, people started referring to it as The Scary Lucy Statue. In 2016 a new statue that actually resembled Lucy was erected to replace Scary Lucy. But because Scary Lucy had received a lot of media attention, it became a tourist attraction. So Scary Lucy still stands just about 75-years from the New Lucy Statue. During my visit to the park there was a mix of locals and tourists. There was plenty of free parking near both statues. After visiting the Lucy statues, I took a nice walk around the park and enjoyed the view of the Lake. While I came here to see the Statues, I enjoyed spending a few minutes quietly walking around the...
Read moreVisited this park for the first time in a while as someone who grew up nearby and loved this park. I'm sad to say it's depreciated quite a bit; they really need to fix the children's playground. Not only is it in bad shape and falling apart but it's dangerous. The town didn't even bother to put wood chips down so it's overgrown with grass and weeds. The trash bins through the inner park are uncovered so they attract bugs. The tables are warped and losing paint.
It's hard to see this park invest money in restrooms (where the infant changing stations are broken and unusable) and benches and walkways but leave a playground in that decrepit state for the kids. You would think with the newer hotel nearby and the restaurant/ ice cream parlor across the street that this park would at least be kept up.
This is the only playground for kids in the nearby community. Celoron needs...
Read moreFairly scenic small park on the shore of Chautauqua Lake just outside Lucy's hometown of Jamestown NY. Both the newer, more lifelike Lucy statue and the older "what was the artist thinking" Lucy statue are here and within 100-150' of each other. Small pier and a small lighthouse are just off to the side of the park near a boat launch ramp for the lake. Public restrooms are available in the park, and there is a veterans memorial, as well. Certainly worth a visit if you're in the area for all things Lucille Ball related, but only merits maybe a 30-minute visit. Some small shops are across the street, but weren't open when we were there. Lucy's childhood home on Lucy Lane is really close by, so we chose to both on the same outing, and it seemed to be a good plan - maybe a 10 minute drive...
