My experience here had its ups and downs. I reserved a tent site with electricity. Upon arrival, a staff member showed us to our site. He was very helpful. We found that the electric outlet was too far from our parking space. We have an EV and we were hoping to charge it. The site itself was nice. I liked the patio, table, and chairs that were provided. There was a distinct lack of trees at the site which placed us in direct sunlight for the entire day with no shade. Unfortunately, a previous camper didn't clean up after their dog and my boyfriend stepped in it while moving camping supplies. Maintenance here isn't good. We had car trouble the second day and went to the camp store to see if they had jumper cables. The girls at the store were helpful and radioed to maintenence but they were unable to locate him or get a response for 30 minutes. If they had been calling him with an actual emergency, what then? One of the girls even made a comment that they routinely have trouble calling/finding him. The lining of the heated pool had also separated signifigantly and water was filling underneath, posing a risk. You could feel large bubbles of water under your feet while in the pool. There were also clumps of hair floating everywhere. I told the camp office about the lining of the pool in the morning when I went and it was still unfixed when I returned in the evening. Im not sure why maintenance didnt realize this before opening the pool in the morning. The following morning, I found that a pump had been placed overnight and was still pumping out water. The campsite is a very reasonable distance from Niagara Falls and there's plenty of dining and shopping within a mile. The camp store has a nice selection of products and the people working in there were helpful and friendly. I'm not sure what his name is, but there was a young man going around on a golf cart checking on the campsites. He was very helpful. I upgraded to a basic cabin the last night I was there due to an incoming rain storm. Thankfully, we were allowed to make this upgrade. The modest cabin was a nice reprieve and I would certainly stay in one in the future. Overall, I'd stay here again when visiting Niagara. I just hope that they have an improved maintenance department. I would not do another camp site and would...

This has been my fifth summer camping at Grand Island KOA, and it will be my last. The first four years were great, but this year everyone in my family who came to camp had something wrong with their cabin.
First, my brother and I shared a cabin (the same one we’ve gotten every year) to which we found the smell of sewage. Come to find out the pipes under the house were disconnected and all the waste was being poured out below us. So management had us switch cabins, but only for a couple nights because the cabin that was available at the time was reserved for someone else the last night we were there. So the last night we had to pack up all our belongings and switch again. Very inconvenient and made our experience less than enjoyable.
The mattresses might as well be made of tissue paper and you have to double up the cots so you can attempt to get any sort of sleep. We got charged for another night, without permission or a signature, even though we paid in full when we checked in… There was a lot of confusion there which was frustrting. We were eventually refunded the additional night that we shouldn’t have been charged for in the first place. Also, instead of refunding us anything for what we we paid for our stay, they said they “upgraded” our cabin for us to an 8 person instead of a 4 person. We wouldn’t have wanted to change cabins in the first place if the sewage pipes weren’t broken! However, we did end up getting a partial refund.
My sisters cabin had mushrooms growing behind her toilet in her cabin, along with a squishy floor in front of her shower. My mom’s toilet was not properly installed into the floor so it rocked when you sat on it. Someone had to come fix it, got toilet water everywhere, then someone had to come clean that up. Lastly, my Aunt’s cabin had a critter living in the walls of her cabin. The noise kept her up all night until 4am when her and her son decided to go elsewhere to sleep.
We pay good money to camp here every year so our family can get together and have a good time. But we won’t be paying to stay at a facility that doesn’t properly maintain their...
Read moreWe enjoy camping in nature, and KOA is definitely not a nature camping experience. We knew this going in, but chose this campground because it was close to the Niagara Falls Canadian border and more affordable than staying in a hotel.
We had our two kids (12 & 13) with us and thought they’d enjoy the many amenities that cater to children. They did—but even they said they prefer camping in a natural setting over having lots of extras.
Specifics:
Bathrooms: The restroom by the heated pool was very dirty. I only went in once and never again. I used the ones closer to the entrance by the RVs, which were much better.
Tent sites: Ours—and the others we saw—were about 95% exposed to the sun with no shade at all. Definitely bring a canopy or shade tent for cooking and relaxing. Our tent turned into an oven, so we couldn’t leave food or snacks inside. We ended up rigging a tarp to keep our cooler and supplies safe from the sun.
Amenities at the site: Having electricity and water hookups was great. However, the paved cement area around the fire pit and seating space felt unnatural to us—we prefer a more traditional camping environment.
Noise: The highway runs right along the west side of the grounds, so it’s loud. Add in the theme park next door and it’s definitely not a peaceful, quiet camping spot (something we had read in other reviews and can now confirm).
Staff: Super friendly and helpful, including the younger/teen staff. Really great service all around.
Pools & activities: The pool near the entrance was clean and less crowded, which we preferred. Our kids especially liked the bouncy pad and the 4-wheel bike rentals.
Location: Conveniently close to the Canadian border, as well as Target and Walmart for any needs. There are some restaurants nearby—not a ton—but plenty of fast-food options.
Overall: If you want a kid-friendly campground with lots of amenities close to Niagara Falls, this KOA is a solid choice. But if you love the peace and beauty of camping in nature, you may be disappointed—just...
