Someone just posted a review about the staff being rude at this location a mere 5 hours ago, and I agree. In a completely unrelated review (I don't know the other person), I'd like to share my experience. I was with two special needs individuals who were learning how to play a new card game, and we used the teen room as it was much quieter than the main room. When teaching autistic individuals, a quiet environment is essential. While they were learning the ropes of the game, nobody spoke and you could hear a pin drop. These individuals were very quiet and well behaved! Well. The librarians Annalyse & Michelle were unapologetically rude, and extremely passive aggressive (and loud) in telling us that we needed to leave "right away". "There are plenty of other tables", she basically yelled/screamed across the teen room. She wasn't quiet about it, or the least bit nice - had she been friendly and approached us with some manners, I would not have taken the time out to write this review. Both appeared to work as a team, rolling their eyes the entire time we put the game away. We packed up and left with no argument. BUT the eye rolling and chatter between them as we were walking out was beyond anything I have ever experienced working in this field. I will never, ever return to this library ever again. The kicker? This isn't the first time these ladies acted with distain and ignorance toward the special needs community. I will definitely be following up with various agencies that protect our special needs community from these types of people. I will also be sharing this review along with the names of the librarians across the OPWDD and NY CSS bulletin boards. Michelle and Annalyse displayed such a high level of discrimination toward these individuals, it's a very sad world we live in. Everyone should be treated with respect, especially our most...
Read moreThe Commack public library (CPL) is truly a gem in our community, and I feel so fortunate to be a part of it. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the warmth and dedication that the staff and volunteers bring to their work. The library isn’t just a place for books; it’s a vibrant hub of learning, creativity, and connection for people of all ages.
What stands out most to me are the amazing programs they offer for children and families. Whether it’s storytime sessions, hands-on craft workshops, or engaging educational activities, they have something for every young learner. My family and I have found so much joy and inspiration here. These programs spark curiosity in kids, encourage a love for reading, and create lasting memories.
Beyond the children’s programs, the library goes above and beyond to serve the entire community. From hosting book clubs and technology classes to organizing cultural events and providing essential resources, they foster an environment where everyone feels welcome and valued. It’s clear that the library staff deeply cares about enriching our lives and supporting lifelong learning.
Being a part of this library has been a gift. It’s not just a place to borrow books—it’s a space where community bonds grow stronger, where curiosity is encouraged, and where everyone, regardless of age, is invited to dream, learn, and thrive.
Thank you, CPL and the staff for being a cornerstone of our community. I look forward to continuing to support and enjoy...
Read moreExtremely noisy after 3pm. The main problem is all the teachers running their cash tutoring businesses out of the library (which is paid for by taxpayers). That's just not right (do I get to run my business there too and see clients?) and especially when this all happens in the quiet area with no respect for people studying. The librarians do nothing about this. Two other issues in the quiet area are: 1) the side ceiling is open to the above area which can be quite loud, and 2) the wifi in the quiet area is absolutely awful and if you say something to the librarian you get a stare like you're from outer space. Oh yeah, you can't forget the elevator bell chiming every 30 seconds, that's quite special... and bewildering. Why is there a bell ringing in the quiet area especially when the elevator door almost never opens on that level??? Aside from ignoring the quiet area issues the librarians are otherwise very pleasant and helpful. And the whole place is always clean and organized with a good...
